We provide Anti-Snake Venom that is a sterile preparation containing equine immunoglobulin fragments F (ab') 2. The antitoxic equine immunoglobulin and its derivatives are acquired from the serum of healthy equines immunized against venoms of different species of snakes.

Composition :

The Anti-Snake Venom is constituted in freeze dried powder and in liquid form. Herein, the dried powder is reconstituted with 10ml of sterile water for injection IP, which ultimately dissolves into transparent colorless or pale yellow liquid. Each ml of this vial can potentially neutralize the venom of hard hitting snakes.

After effects of snake bite : Cobra or Krait
  • Staggering gait
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty in speaking
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Drooping of head
  • Creeping paralysis of muscles of eyelids
  • Predominance of neurotoxins
  • Death due to respiratory failure
Russell's viper and saw scaled viper
  • Persistent pain and swelling of the bitten limb
  • Discharge of blood from the bite site
  • Necrosis and blister formation
  • Severe internal and external hemorrhage
  • General vascular injury
  • Vomiting may occur
  • Death that results from cardiovascular shock or renal failure
Dosage :
  • For adults: 0.5mg of 1:1000
  • For children: 0.01mg/kg body weight of adrenaline I/M
Reactions :
  • Urticarial
  • Fever
  • Itching
  • Nausea
  • Chills or rigor
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Hypotension
  • Tachycardia
  • Angioedema
  • Bronchospasm
Protection against anaphylactic reaction :
  • For adults :100mg of hydrocortisone and 10mg of H1 antihistamine can be given I/V
  • For children :0.2mg/kg of antihistamine I/V and 2mg/kg of hydrocortisone I/V
    • If the patient�s condition has not improved or it gets worsening, a second dose is recommended of0.5 mg of adrenaline 1:1000 IM may be given.
    • In case of hypertension or hemodynamic instability the patient should be provided with I/V fluids.
    • In case the patient started recovering, anti-venom can be restarted slowly for 10-15 minutes. The patient should be kept under closed observation afterwards the normal drip rate can be resumed.
    • In case of Serum sickness, patient should be treated with oral antihistamines and corticosteroids. The dosage for adults is 5mg 6 hourly and for child is 0.7mg/kg/day.
Storage
  • This preparation should be stored in cool and dark place. Exposure to excessive heat should be strictly avoided.
  • This preparation should not be stored for longer period of time and strictly restricted to freeze.
  • 10 ml liquid vials should be stored between 2oC and 8oC. DO NOT FREEZE.
Presentation
  • 10 ml of the Anti-Snake Venom is available in glass container.
Disposal
  • Left over Anti-Venom and used empty container should be discarded as biomedical waste.
Each ml has power of specifically neutralising the venoms of following species of snakes :
  • 0.60 mg of dried Indian Cobra (Naja naja) venom
  • 0.45 mg of dried Common Krait (Bangarus caeruleus) venom
  • 0.60 mg of dried Russell's Viper (Vipera russelli) venom
  • 0.45 mg of dried Sawscaled Viper (Echis carinatus) venom
