ANSI/BIFMA X6.1-2018 Testing Services

CIL Provides ANSI/BIFMA X6.1 Testing for Educational Seating. CIL is an accredited ANSI/BIFMA X6.1 Testing Services in India. BIFMA X6.1-2018 is intended to provide manufacturers, specifiers, and users with a common basis for evaluating the safety, durability, and structural adequacy of Educational Seating, including units with integrated desk or table surfaces. The tests in this standard are intended to evaluate seating for students in pre-school, elementary, middle school, high school, adult education, trade school, and college environments. These tests are not intended to evaluate products used in living/dorm environments. The educational seating products covered by this standard are normally used in schools and colleges and include those typically referred to as chairs, stacking chairs, tablet-arm chairs, chair-desks, stools, and convertible bench/tables. Seating products that are anchored to the building floor or structure and bleachers are not specifically addressed in this standard. Chairs with tilting seats and/or backs such as executive/management chairs, task/secretarial/teacher chairs, side/guest chairs may be used in educational environments, but these products are covered by ANSI/BIFMA X5.1 General-Purpose Office Chairs - Tests (designated within that standard as Type l and ll). 

BIFMA X6.1 

ANSI/BIFMA X6.1 Educational Seating was released in April 2018 and replaces the original version, which was released in 2012.CDG offers BIFMA X6.1 testing as part of its Office Furniture Testing services.  These standard covers seating products used in educational institutions from pre-school all the way to college and university. It does not address office chairs (BIFMA X5.1 or BIFMA X5.11) or seating used in high-use public areas (BIFMA X5.4). 

Height adjustable chairs shall be measured in the highest position for classification purposes. BIFMA X6.1 has 20 tests and covers three types of educational seating units: 

• Fixed Seat Angle, Fixed Backrest Chair 
• Chair Desk 
• Convertible Bench Table 

ANSI/BIFMA X6.1-2018 defines the specific tests, laboratory equipment, conditions of test, and recommended minimum levels to be used in the testing and evaluation of the safety, durability, and structural adequacy of educational Seating products. 

Main revisions in this version include: 

• Test forces and loads increasing given heavier adults and children; 
• Modifying proof load durations; 
• Adding an informative simultaneous side legs strength test 
• And, several harmonization with ANSI/BIFMA X5.1-2017
