Ammonium Bicarbonate is bicarbonate salt of ammonia having faint ammonical odour is an inorganic chemical compound. Ammonium Bicarbonate exists in solid state which degrades to carbon dioxide, water and ammonia. It is also known as Ammonium Hydrogen Carbonate.
Common grade available and application: Ammonium Bicarbonate is used in the food industry as raising agent in bakery etc. It is also used in pharmaceuticals as key component of the expectorant cough syrup.
General properties :

• Appearance - A fine, white, crystalline powder or white crystals, slightly hygroscopic
• Identifications - It gives positive reaction for Ammonia and Carbonate/bicarbonate
• Solubility - Freely soluble in water; solution is clear
• pH=7.0-8.5 (5% w/v soln)
• Loss on drying/Aqua - Max. 1.0%
• Heavy metals=Max. 0.0005%
• Water insoluble - Less than 0.05%
• Assay - Not less than 99% on dried basis
