It is moderate sized tree growing upto 1400 m. altitude Leaves are subsessile, very small of 1 cm. size and simple but its branches are mistaken for pinnate leaf. Flowers- are greenish yellow in colour and solitary. Fruit is a berry globose yellow and 6- lobed and contains 6 trigonous seeds.

• Amla extract is an herbal product taken from a tree that grows naturally in India and the Middle East. The amla fruit itself is almost perfectly spherical. It’s a light green-yellow color and smooth and hard to the touch. There are six vertical stripes down the sides of the fruit.
• It reduces Vata due to its Amla (sourness) taste pitta due to its sweetness and cooling effect, and kapha due to its drying action and astringent taste and it reduces all the three Dosas. We should understand the potency of kernel of a particular seed to that of the fruit rind.
• Its fruit doesn’t contain L- ascorbic acid (vit.C.) as it was once believed. It contains water soluble tannins like Emblicanin- A and B, Punigluconin and Pedunculagin and terebin, Corilagin, ellagic acid and phyllembic acid. Its root contains ellagic acid, lupeol and oleanolic aldehyde. Bark contains procyanidin, leuco delphinidin and other tannins.
