When the pollutants are smoke, fume or volatile in nature we use wet scrubber to clean the impure air by scrubbing it with water or necessary solvent. Widely used for flue gas treatments. The design and construction of the scrubber varies with the application and nature of fume.
In typical wet scrubber, the polluted gas stream is brought into contact with the scrubbing liquid, by spraying it with the liquid, by forcing it through a pool of liquid, or by some other contact method, so as to remove the pollutants. Special flue gas affinity packing layers are arranged to absorb the impurities. The versatility of wet scrubbers allows them to be built in numerous configurations, all designed to provide good contact between the liquid and polluted gas stream.
