• General Specifications Industrial grade Bitumen 85/40 or 85/25 conforming to IS 702 of 1961 or equivalent solvent-free cold emulsion is ideal stickers.
•  Provides suitable vapor barrier on the warm side.
• This is absolutely essential in the case of cold stores operating below 0 degree Celsius.
• Wherever necessary, provide mechanical support of non-conducting material to hold insulation and support the reinforcement in the final finish.
• In low temperature cold store, it is useful to have a layer of tar felt over the floor insulation before the reinforced concrete is laid. This will avoid cracks in the floor finishing.
• Pipe Insulation exposed to severe monsoon atmosphere should have vapor barrier treatment in addition to a strong protective layer like cement sand plaster.

• Bitumen : Bitumen has following Three Components
  • Asphlatene : This Contains difficulty dispersible bodies0
  • Resins : Known as Solvating Agents that keeps Asphaltenes dispersed
  • Petrolenes : Disoolving agent that would tend, if not held in sufficient check by resins phase, to flooculate the Asphaltenes.
  • Different Grades of Bitumen ; The normal Grade usually used includes 80/100, 60/70 and 30/40.

• Usage of Bitumen : For various road construction operations, bitumen should be brough to certain viscosity value. The desired viscosity value can be achieved by following three different processes.
  • By heating
  • By flexing with petroleum distillates like Naphtha, Kerosene, Diesel and Furnace oil (Cut back)
  • Dispensing Bitumen in water to obtain Emulsion.
