This spice is grown only in Northern India, Afghanistan & some parts of Persia. BEWARE : Asafoetida is also an expensive spice (maybe second after saffron). Many people offer cheap asafoetida but the asafoetida they sell is never pure. They sell Compounded Asafoetida by adding upto 85 % wheat flour, rice flour, gum arabic, turmeric powder and other cheap products.This is pure dry dark reddish brown asafoetida gum.
