A Ring Main Unit (RMU) is a totally sealed, gas-insulated compact switchgear unit. The primary –switching devices can be either switch disconnectors or fused switch disconnectors or circuit breakers. Different combinations of these primary switching devices within the unit are In case a circuit breaker is the switching device, it is also equipped with 'protective relaying, either with a very basic self-powered type or a more advanced one with communication capabilities. The rated voltage and current ranges for RMUs typically reach up to 24 kV and 630 A respectively. The increase in rated voltage is handled by an increase in the insulating gas pressure.

• Check the tightness of cable connections at the transformer's terminals.
• Measure the load on all the three phases .Help the customer in balancing the load on all the three phases. Advising the customer for arranging higher capacity transformer in case presently installed transformer observed to be overloaded.
• Oil leakages if any will be arrested by tightening bolt& nuts or otherwise by replacing the gaskets of top cover /bushings.
• Top up the oil in the transformer if found below the normal mark.
• Transformer's breather will be provided fresh silica-gel in place of old one.
• Check the healthiness of transformer's earthing. If earthing resistance found abnormally higher then customer will be advised for the arrangement of new earthing.
• Measure the insulation level of transformer .If it is observed below normal , remedial measures like oil filtration & dehydration shall be taken. Normally oil filtration will be carried once in two years.
• We may carry painting of transformer's body ( If it is rusted ) at very nominal charges. Rusting cause pin holes in the transformer tank leading to oil leakage .Body should therefore be kept well painted.
