The small distinctive back provides lumber support although the Saddle Chair promotes autonomous sitting without using the backrest. It allows people to sit in Keegans posture where the legs are at an angle of 120-135 degrees to the torso. It keeps the diaphragm unrestricted and promotes better breathing. When used with a tall table (900 mm high), it promotes an active lifestyle.

Fixed table/chairs are ergonomically inappropriate as the distance between table and chair needs to change for writing and reading. Computers are also used in class rooms now and the furniture does not work well with that.

Chairs with attached tablets allow the furniture to be moved around easily and are cheaper than other types. However this furniture is not durable and cannot be stacked for storage. Ergonomically, the fixed position of tablet is not very convenient. Tablets that are large enough to use a laptop computer require the tablet to be supported on both arms of chair and are very difficult to get in and out of. Each such chair needs a lot of space.

Keeping these shortcomings in mind, Opus Indigo has designed Chair-a-Mez (CaM) an ergonomically suitable chair/table arrangement that is compact, durable, and easy to move around and is stackable for storage. Patent application has been filed with the Indian Patent Office and with the World Intellectual Property Organization. The design been registered and trade mark protection has been applied for Chair-a-Mez.

Although it can be used with a normal height meeting table, its benefits are best felt with a table 900 mm or more in height. It engages the core of the user by letting him rock on his seat.
