Americans often call jute burlap. The fiber comes from the same bast plant family as hemp, linen, flax and ramie do. Mesta, or Kenif, botanically known as Hibiscus Cannabinus, is also grown in contiguous areas as a textile fiber and is mixed with jute to produce the fabrics you see.
Because it sold in such immense quantities as a packaging material the potential of this wonderful fiber remained undiscovered until recently. Today it is being recognized as being as exciting as its cousins: hemp, linen, flax and ramie.
We delight in making a wide range of bags from jute. See our range of jute shopping bags, jute promotional bags, jute wine bags and jute portfolios.
