CCTV Surveillance

It is crucial to take security seriously in this day and age. It is not just businesses and commercial properties that need good security but it is our homes too. With crime increasing and burglaries very common place, it is very important to consider the available security options and choose one that is the best fit for you.

One of the most popular and cost effective ways of providing security in the home and place of work is with cctv cameras and equipment. CCTV cameras can act as a very successful deterrent to thieves and burglars, certainly making them think twice at the very least. The technology behind security equipment these days is incredibly advanced, and it is even possible to hook the cameras up to an ordinary television or computer to watch the footage.

The following are some of the concerns both home and business have and Top 10 Reasons of Why Install CCTV.

Prevent Crime

If you're worried about crime, cameras can not only catch criminals in the act, but the very presence of CCTV systems can make a would-be criminal think twice about any wrong-doing. Think about it, if you planned rob or vandalize a store or office, would you want to do it if you knew you were being recorded?

Prevent Employee Theft

If you suspects one of your employees of wrong-doing but don't know where to begin to try to get to the bottom of things, a camera can be a very helpful tool. This is especially true if you own an establishment where cash is exchanged. Cameras posted near cash registers or other places where employees are often stationed, not only can show you if an employee is stealing, but may even deter an employee from committing a crime if they know you're watching.

Be a useful piece of evidence

If a crime is committed in or around your business and the person accused of committing the crime was caught on camera, you've got an extra piece of evidence for a court case. Jurors and judges can watch footage or view photos from your security cameras and establish that the person on trial did indeed commit the crime. Not only will you be preventing the same person from causing you more trouble in the future, you'll be helping out your entire community.

Help law enforcement solve crime

When someone commits a crime and is caught on camera, police and other law enforcement officials can use the footage to release video or photos to the public via various media outlets. Having a picture of the suspect can make a world of difference when it comes to making an arrest and getting dangerous criminal off the street.

Keep an eye on children and elderly folks

With a CCTV system at home, you can monitor the safety of your children and elderly folks while you are away. Besides, you can keep an eye on your maid and make sure nothing out of the ordinary is going on.

Keep an eye on things

If you can't be at the office all the time but like to know what's going on, a security camera can help do just that. You can keep an eye on things from your home computer with a few quick clicks of your mouse and make sure your business is running smoothly and nothing out of the ordinary is going on.

Protecting your staff

CCTV can protect your staff physically against violence from customers. At the same time, it can also protect them against false accusations - perhaps coming from colleagues or even from client and customers.

Encourage good behaviour

Having a CCTV camera inside offices may help in creating discipline among the employees. For bosses, who want their presence felt so that efficiency at work is optimized, a camera hovering the employees will give the same effect.

Monitoring high-risk area

Cameras may be placed in high-risk areas inside a factory. Such areas may include those in which fires can possibly break out. A camera in place there will lessen potential damages because emergency measures can be made immediately. Cameras may also be placed in areas where accidents can happen. This is important so that life-saving measures can be employed promptly.

Increase customers confidence

Banks and shops equipped with CCTV cameras give the customers a sense of security and safety. The customers feel secure and this enhances the customers' confidence.

Manual Call Points

A Break Glass Call Point is a device which enables personnel to raise the alarm by breaking the frangible element on the fascia. They should be mounted 1.4m from the floor and sited where they can be easily seen. Manual Call Points should be sited on the floor landings of stairways and at exits to open air. It should be noted that Call Points should be fitted on the floor side of an access door to a staircase so the floor of origin is indicated at the Control Panel. Extra points should be sited, where necessary, so that the greatest travel distance from any point in the building to the nearest call point does not exceed 30m. A greater number of Call Points may be needed in high risk areas or if the occupants are likely to be slow in movement. Flameproof call points are available, also handle operated points for use in areas where broken glass may cause a hazard.

Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Systems

Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Systems are often known as Intelligent Fire Alarm Systems. There are several different types of Analogue Systems available which are determined by the type of protocol which they use. The bulk of standard Analogue Detectors available are fairly stupid as the Detectors can only give output signals representing the value of detected phenomena. It is left up to the Control Unit to decide whether there is a fire, fault, pre-alarm or other. With a true Intelligent Analogue System each detector effectively incorporates its own computer which evaluates the environment around it, and communicates to the Control Panel whether there is a fire, fault or the detector head needs cleaning. Essentially Analogue Systems are far more complex and incorporate far more facilities than Conventional or Addressable Systems. Their primary purpose is to help prevent the occurrence of false alarms. With the Analogue Addressable System, up to 127 input devices i.e.: Smoke Detectors, Call Points, Heat Detectors, Contact Monitors and other interface devices may be wired to each detection loop. In addition to the 127 Input Devices, up to 32 Output Devices such as Loop Sounders, Relay Modules and Sounder Modules may be connected. Analogue Systems are available in 2, 4 and 8 loop versions which means large premises can be monitored from one single panel. Isolator units should be connected between sections of detectors as described for Addressable Systems.

Fully approved to EN54 parts 2 & 4 by the Loss Prevention Certification Board, the XFP Range of networkable analogue addressable fire alarm control panels offers high performance at a competitive price. Available in two different versions (a cost-effective single loop 16 zone panel supplied in a plastic enclosure and a robust 1 or 2 loop 32 zone metal panel), the range offers an array of user and installerfriendly features.

Wireless Routers

Before deciding on buying a specific router ask yourself if you want computers to be able to connect wired or wirelessly to your network.

A wireless router is a network device that enables you connects several computers to the Internet without using cables, rather by using wireless access points, or WLAN. Some of the reason we go wireless networking include freedom and affordability. But you need to keep other factors in mind.

Look out for notable brands like Cisco, Net Gear, Linksys and D-link. These are most popular brands built with rugged technologies.

Bandwidths and performance should be another factor to check for. A wireless standard defines the speed for interconnectivity or data transmission by a particular router. E.g. 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11n etc

Whether you are setting up a wireless network at home or in the office, there are many features available to you with the network installation. From sharing information directly to connecting to the same Internet source, wireless networks may using multiple computers in the same location far easier than having each computer run individually.

To start, when using a wireless network each computer is able to access all the same hardware, such as printers and scanners. This saves you a good deal of money over purchasing equipment for each and every computer. Once the hardware is connected to the network hub via wireless hook-up and the necessary drivers are installed on all the computers, any computer is capable of sending print requests directly to the desired hardware.

Sharing data is far easier with a wireless network once a network drive is installed. The network drive can be an external hard drive hooked up to the network hub. Once set up all computers have access to storage space on the drive. This allows you to save important documents onto the drive form one computer, then access the information on a second computer.

With a wireless network, all computers in the home or office can access the Internet, without a wired connection. The password is the same for connecting to the network, and it saves you the time of setting up a wired Ethernet hook up and the cost associated with purchasing all the cables and other hardware necessary for setting up the equipment. It also makes troubleshooting an Internet connection far easier, as there are less cables and wires you need to look over before determining what the problem is. Simply saving time is often well worth the price of admission, as the wireless network proves to be a valuable asset.

Wired / Structured network:

Networking provides the ability to monitor and control operations and machinery remotely. It provides the ability to incorporate device diagnostics and alarm reporting for operations, equipment, and devices. By using networking, troubleshooting and corrective actions can be accomplished remotely. These capabilities can enhance safety, increase productivity, and reduce the number of engineers, equipment operators, and maintenance personnel needed.

Networks of the Future

Imagine a company where as soon as an employee enters the elevator a surveillance camera detects his face or photo ID and immediately connects with the authorised desktop to inform about his arrival so that the desktop turns on automatically.

In another context, imagine that the vice-president of sales can use his smartphone to access data by logging on to the corporate network securely and his technical team can stop worrying that accessing business-critical applications along with personal information will severely tax bandwidth.

While the scenarios appear futuristic, it is true that networks can be designed to handle a lot more than what they do today, be it determining what employees are doing or helping business leaders make better decisions.

Organisations with such capabilities on their network will be much better equipped to handle any customer/employee queries in real time and provide them with a satisfactory experience. Such intelligent networks need unification of wired and wireless access to support the proliferation of devices and ubiquitous mobility.

GenNext network

A next-generation network is a strategically developed network that is optimised for todays requirements and is also customised to accommodate future technology disruptions and provide investment protection. It supports trends around mobility, cloud computing and the changing threat landscape and transforms the network into a service-delivery mechanism that enables IT organisations to not only say 'yes' to strategic business efforts, but also roll out these services broadly and deliver value back to the business. A next-generation network provides ease of use and management capabilities.

An enterprise next-generation network is a unified network consisting of wired and wireless, virtual private network (VPN), building and energy control. It integrates security capabilities from the premise to the cloud, leads to less administrative overhead and fewer security gaps. A next generation network is application and endpoint aware and adjusts to the application being delivered and the endpoint device on which it appears.

The future

In the future the role of network administrators' will change, because rather than just focusing on how applications and devices connect to the network, they will have to look at the performance of the application on the network, make adjustments to packet transfer rates and integrate virtualisation into the network operating system.

Clearly, the network of the future will be incredibly flexible and intelligent. Services will be consumed dynamically, and this will be made possible by and is completely dependent on, dynamic and flexible network services.

Multi Sensor Detector

This detector combines inputs from optical and heat sensors and processes them using a sophisticated algorithm. When polled by the control panel it returns an analogue count which is determined by combined responses from both optical and heat sensors. They are designed to be sensitive to a wide range of fires and may be used in place of an ionisation detector in many instances.

Operating principles

Signals from the optical smoke chamber and temperature sensor are independent, and represent the smoke level and air temperature respectively in the vicinity of the detector; the detectors micro controller processes both signals. The temperature signal processing extracts only rate of rise information for combination with the smoke signal. The detector will not respond to slow increases in temperature but a large sudden change can cause an alarm without presence of smoke, if sustained for 20 seconds. The processing algorithms in the multi-sensor incorporate drift compensation.

Points to consider

  • Open or closed circuit
  • Fault monitored circuit
  • System voltage
  • Surface or flush mounting
  • Detector operated indicator
  • Two or three-wire system
  • Quiescent current demand
  • Smoke detector location
  • Spare detector heads

Security Access Control System

The importance of an access control system

The capabilities of a modern access control system can not only help you control who gets in and out of your building but also assists with health and safety, as well as HR activities. Access control installation can increase efficiency within an organisation. An access control system can do the following:

  • Assist with payroll
  • Secure a building
  • Reduce costs
  • Go green
  • Control car parks

Assist with payroll

In the past staff attendance records wouldve had to be entered into the system manually to process payroll, an access control system eliminates this process as the data can be collected, stored and imported into your payroll system. This is especially beneficial to large companies and can save a lot of time, money and eliminate errors.

Secure a building

Limiting access to the building means, only those who have been provided with the access pass will be able to let themselves into the building. This means that the building is more secure as unauthorized visitors are unable to enter.

Access control can also be used to limit the areas which can be accessed within a building. For example, an employee may be able to enter the building, but will be unable to enter the gym because they do not have a gym membership.

In multi occupancy buildings where there are multiple floors, some peoples access may be restricted to certain floors or particular areas of the building.

An access control system can also take into account, the day and time; therefore a persons access can be restricted to certain days and hours of the week.

Reduce costs

An access control system can cut costs by allowing companies to save money on printing and photocopying ID. As the pass holds the owners details, they will simply be able to present the pass to the reader and their information will come up.

This also saves time and eliminates the need for storage and getting rid of documents as well as helping to maintain data protection for those who come into the building.

There are various other areas which an access control system can help a business reduce its cost and save time.

Go green

Installing an access control system, can cut your energy bill and therefore your carbon emissions.

This can be done by installing the access control system to exchange data with the building management system. As an access control system knows which parts of the building are occupied, it is able to exchange information with the building management system so it can automatically turn off unnecessary lighting and heating in unoccupied areas.

Control car parks

An access control system can control who enters and exits a car park as well as count how many cars have entered the car parks so that further cars are banned from entering. Conclusion

Modern access control systems have a lot to offer, there is all the above and plenty more.

Starting with the personal information system

We have starting a new step toward HR system. We have just now completed some more tabs for personal information. With the release of this system, you will be able to record more information of the employees.

Fire Alarm System

All Fire Alarm Systems essentially operate on the same principle. If a detector detects smoke or heat or someone operates a break glass unit (manual break point), then alarm sounders operate to warn others in the building that there may be a fire and to evacuate. It may also incorporate remote signaling equipment which would alert the fire brigade via a central station.

Fire Alarm Systems can be broken down into few categories:

  • Conventional
  • Analogue Addressable
  • Wireless systems

Conventional Fire Alarm System

In a Conventional Fire Alarm System, a number of call points and detectors are wired to the Fire Alarm Control Panel in Zones. A Zone is a circuit and typically one would wire a circuit per floor or fire compartment. The Fire Alarm Control Panel has a number of Zone Lamps. The reason for having Zones is to give a rough idea as to where a fire has occurred. This is important for the fire brigade and of course for the building management. The accuracy of knowing where a fire has started is controlled by the number of Zones a Control Panel has and the number of circuits that have been wired within the building. The Control Panel is wired to a minimum of two sounder circuits which could contain bells, electronic sounders or other audible devices. Each circuit has an end of line device which is used for monitoring purposes.

By simply learning some of the important features of a digital video recorder for home surveillance, as well as how to choose a top-quality model, one can easily find a product in a matter of minutes. Digital video recorders for home surveillance can be found at electronics stores and other brick and mortar locations that sell digital electronics. Whether buyers are looking for a budget digital video recorder for home surveillance or for a more sophisticated system, eBay is a good place to shop for such products at competitive prices.

Motion Detection

A motion detector is a device that alerts a user of any moving objects or people in a given area. This device is one of the essential features of any DVR home surveillance system, as it can detect people who are moving in the secured area. Users may choose to connect the motion detector to a burglar alarm if they want. This kind of device can also trigger a red light camera, and this is one of the most popular ways of integrating motion detectors into DVR home surveillance systems.

Zoom

The images produced by the surveillance cameras are of little use if they are not of high quality. When choosing a DVR for home surveillance, buyers should make sure the cameras have a zoom feature. While many people believe that a higher zoom leads to a better image quality, this is not always the case. According to Source Security, it is important to consider the quality of the lens and the full frame rate of the video streaming as well.

Night-time Viewing

Night-time viewing is essential mainly because most thefts occur at that time of the day. The good news is that most DVRs for home surveillance have this feature incorporated. Buyers should, however, be careful about the quality of the image, as not all models provide the same quality when it comes to the night-time vision.

Outdoor Capability

Digital home video recorders are available for both indoor and outdoor locations. Buyers who intend to get images from a place outside their home should opt for a DVR system that comes with outdoor capabilities. This means a wider range for capturing the images as well as extra protections for the cameras. These digital video recorders should be protected from rain, wind, and snow, so buyers should opt for systems that are especially designed for the outdoors.

Field of Vision

The lens size of a security camera used with a DVR determines the field of vision. Fixed security cameras are typically employed with DVRs and the larger the size of the lens, the more zoomed-in the field of vision is. Most cameras have adjustable fields of vision and buyers should first determine the intended location of the cameras before making a purchase.

Interactive Monitoring

Interactive monitoring is perhaps the handiest feature of a DVR for home surveillance. Interactive monitoring allows homeowners to have 24/7 access to the security system installed in their home via Internet or cell phone. Some of the functions include turning the system on and off remotely, as well as emails and text alerts about any possible threat to the security of the home. A non-stop video stream is also available.

Camera Resolution

The resolution of the camera has a direct impact on the level of detail of the captured image. The regular resolution of a home surveillance camera is between 330 and 400 TVL. Buyers who are looking for top quality can, however, upgrade to a camera with a resolution of up to 700 TVL. According to Security Camera King, a higher resolution is achieved by setting the digital video recorder to a slower frame rate. The more pixels a camera has, the better the resolution it gives to the camera. This allows a digital video recorder to capture a more detailed image, which is an important aspect for many consumers when making a purchase.

Size of the Hard Drive

Most DVR systems can record the video stream on a hard drivefor future use. The length of the recording time depends on the size of the hard drive. Buyers can choose from various hard drive sizes, ranging from less than 100 GB to 4TB and even more. It goes without saying, the larger the hard drive, the more expensive the DVR. According to Buyer Zone, a hard drive with a capacity of 250 GB is often just enough for most home surveillance needs. This means that in many cases it may be unnecessary to spend a lot of money on a large hard drive.

Temperature Detectors

Context Plus XP95 temperature (heat) detectors have a common profile with ionisation and optical smoke detectors but have a low air flow resistance case made of self-extinguishing white polycarbonate. They monitor temperature by using a single thermistor network which provides a voltage output proportional to the external air temperature.

The response to temperature increases of the standard temperature detec tor (part no: 55000-400IMC) enables the detector to be utilised as an EN54 Grade 2 heat detector.

To provide a device for use in ambient temperatures of up to 55C, a high temperature detector (part no: 55000-401IMC) is also available. This has similar characteristics to the standard temperature detector at 25C but reaches a 55 count (alarm) at 90C.

Digital Video Recorder

The main function of DVR (digital video recorder) security systems is to protect valuables and assets. Numerous homeowners or business owners choose to purchase these systems in order to protect their home or business. Picking the right DVR model may sound like a daunting task, but buyers should not worry.
