Most of the mentioned filtering techniques have common drawback of higher cost compared to Passive Filtering techniques. Consequently, the harmonic filtering techniques to a large extent are still the most commonly used techniques for current harmonics mitigation of 6-pulse front-end diode rectifier application.

We have developed an efficient Passive Filter, which can suit many such similar loads. Since all filter components are passive they are rugged, maintenance free, reliable and low cost. Moreover, the filter implementation procedure is relatively easy.

With simple structure, our Passive Filters have been extensively used for VFD harmonic mitigation. No involvement of electronic circuits, hardware and complicated control algorithms. Hence, our Passive Harmonic Filters are relatively inexpensive means for eliminating current harmonics distortion and improving the system power factor. Because of these two in one improvement our broad band filters usually have edge over the other effective filtering methods.

Active Harmonic Filters

Active filters are power electronic devices connected in parallel with the load to be compensated. The device can be thought of as a controlled current source, which provides any kind of current waveform in real time.
When connected in parallel with the nonlinear load, its harmonic currents are compensated and the network is loaded with fundamental current only. The control system monitors the relevant parameters of the network and is capable of detecting and instantaneously reacting to any disturbance in the load current.

Our AHF series is an advanced modular Active Harmonic Filter (AHF) system. The AHF system is constructed of one or several filter modules with system controller. Filter modules and controller, both are embedded in our standard cabinets. CT terminations are fixed in a standard cabinet, and the AHF capacity can be configured accordingly to user requirement. The filter capacity can be easily expanded at the users site by adding extra filter modules as per site requirement.
