It is yellow orangehoneylemon coloured, transparent to sub- transparent mineral having resinous to adamantine lusture, hardness 3 to 3.5 and sp. Gr. 4.8 to 4.9. Generally occurs as coating on zinc minerals.

It is a rock containing p2o5 in the form of chlore-apatite, fluor-apatite, collophane ca3 (f, ci) (po4)3. Phosphrite having +30%, p2o5 is put under high grade category where as the phosphorite containing less than 30% p2o5 is put under low grade category.

Occurs as brown, grey & green shaded, transparent to translucent long, cylindrical crystals having hardness 6.5-7.5 and sp.gr. 3.23-3.27.
