Vermiculite is used as a filler in gypsums, the advantage which all types of vermiculite plasters have over conventional types of plasters are: improved coverage , lighter weight , improved workability , excellent fire resistance , reduced thermal conductivity , improved adhesion to a wide range of backgrounds and increased resistance to cracking and shrinkage.vermiculite also improves the resistance to chipping of plasters due to the ability of vermiculite particles to accommodate dimensional change. It is also used as a growing medium in horticulture, and can be used in conjunction with hydroponics and potting mixes. Other uses include insulation, fire protection, refactory, spill absorption and can be used to replicate railway ballast on scale model sets.these granules are non-combustible, and are insoluble in water and all organic solvents. Expanded vermiculite is easily poured, is light, clean, highly absorbent and provides baffle against impact shock when used for packaging.
