Overmolded Customized Cable Assemblies

  • Networking Fan Tray Assemblies Power Supplies Servers Workstations
  • Data/Communications Power Supplies Markets and Applications Vending Machines
Prototyping cable assemblies requires tooling to crimp terminals. Therefore, costs generated to prototype a system for UL testing can be significant. Molex off-the-shelf Overmolded Cable Assemblieshelp solve tooling start-up costs by providing a completed assembly that meets the IPC-specification design. Designing overmold cables takes 2 to 4 weeks and tooling takes an additional 4 to 6 weeks. Molex has select circuit sizes immediately available, eliminating both design and tooling time. Once prototyping is complete, customers typically need to create drawings and assign resources to find a supplier to build cable assemblies for end products. Molex Overmolded Cable Assemblies with FiT Family and EXTreme Guardian Connectors provide 1-source solutions. This eliminates customers design requirements and need to find another vendor to build assemblies. Designers are faced with the challenge of meeting a range of power requirements. FiT Family and EXTreme Guardian Power Connectors deliver from 5.0 to 80.0A of current and a range of circuit sizes to meet a variety of applications. Many applications see cables being mated and unmated often and risk damage to wires and terminals. The strain relief provided by the overmold reduces mechanical stress on wires and terminals, protecting them from damage.

Backplane Cable Assemblies

  • Data/Computing Data center switches
  • Telecommunications/Networking Cell towers/remote radio unit applications Core routers Top-of-the-rack switches
PAM-4 (pluggable authentication module) signaling is the latest development in serial data signal formats. PAM-4 overcomes the challenges of NRZ signaling. However, implementation of PAM-4 requires an exceptionally low signal-to-noise ratio. BiPass IO and Backplane Assemblies use thin twinax cables that increase signal integrity and improve thermal management. BiPass Assemblies dramatically reduce insertion loss between the ASIC and the front panel IO, thus enabling the successful implementation of 56Gb PAM-4 and a technology path to 112Gb PAM-4 and 56Gb NRZ. In addition, BiPass Assemblies allow for significantly improved air flow and thermal management, which become critical at higher data rates and power dissipation needs. System architects need agility to meet rapidly evolving demands. BiPass Assemblies are a complete solution that offers an integrated, one-piece design and board-mount connectors for easy installation. As capability demands on data centers increase, space constraints in trays and panels also increase. BiPass Assemblies use near-ASIC connectors with low stack height for a smaller footprint within trays.

Aero-Motive Static Discharge Reels

  • Category Tool Support
  • Industrial Series: 2050, 2050Y, 2050NC, 1025, 1025NC
  • Weight Capability: Up to 5.4kg
Available in single or double connection point, Aero-Motive Static Discharge Reels are equipped with a rigid mount that provides four mounting holes for secure placement ensuring a grounding path when mounted to a grounded surface. Tension is built progressively by extending the cable out of the unit and allowing full retraction to original start position. The ratchet lock mechanism provides a safe clamping process and allows the cableground clamp position control. Standard Industrial Duty Static Discharge Reels are designed with sheet metal housings for added durability and impact resistance. A manual ONOFF knob controls the ratchet lock mechanism, however when the OFF position is engaged the reel is under constant tension. The cable needs to be handled with extreme caution as fly back could occur if the operator lets go of the cable before proper mounting. The 2050Y series is equipped with a Y bridle cable design that allows grounding at two simultaneous points making it and excellent choice for aircraft manufacturing facilities. Whereas, the 2050NC provides a nylon coating to prolong cable life and protect against surface damage.

MPO Cable Assemblies

  • Category Optical Connectivity
  • Connector Type: MTP* to LC, MTP to MTP
  • Defense Cabin in-flight entertainment
Molexs MTP*MPO product family utilizes push-pull connector housings for quick and reliable connections. A singlemode low-loss version of the MTPMPO connector is achieved by using more precise MT 8-fiber ferrules and guide pins. The superior precision of the singlemode low-loss MT ferrule yields comparable insertion loss values of the single fiber ceramic ferrules. MTPMPO connectors meet IEC 1754-7 and TIAEIA 604-5 standards. Mating of the MTPMPO connectors can be achieved by using a variety of MTPMPO adapters. For applications where EMI is a concern, a series of shuttered die cast adapters have been designed to shield and isolate EMI emissions. Molex's MTP round jacketed ribbon cable assemblies provide easier installation than traditional flat ribbon cables in optical networks. The primary benefit of the round ribbon cable is realized when used with multiple ribbons within a single jacket. Using round ribbon cables allows installers greater flexibility when routing multiple jacketed cables in dense system networks. MTPMPO cables are offered for various applications for all networking and device needs like 100 Gig modules including CFP, CFP2 and CFP4 series.

Array MT Cable Assemblies

Molex's rugged, high-density Circular and Array MT cable assemblies are designed to meet requirements mandated by telecommunication, military, medical and many other industries. These cable assemblies are designed to meet or exceed the mechanical specifications of traditional data communication and telecommunication inter-chassis connections. The circular MT assemblies use a single MT ferrule housed in a nickel-plated, metal-connector shell. Fiber counts range from 12 to 72 fibers. The metal housing and stainless steel push-pull locking ring provide a more robust design. The MT ferrule is recessed in both the circular connector and receptacle housings, providing an additional improvement over traditional MT connectors. The circular MT products ensure improved alignment benefits, increased pull-strength and the use of new round, ribbon-cable constructions. Molex's Array connector and adapter system is utilized on the card front panel or chassis back panel. Robust polarized guide pins ensure consistent and repeatable mating. Multiple back shell options allow system design engineers to customize their cable management strategy. A high-density interconnection is achieved by increasing the number of MT ferrules in the array connector either as a single or dual row of 4 to 8 MT ferrules per row. The individual MT ferrules may be populated with 4, 8, 12 or 24 fibers depending on the optical requirements.

Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) Cable Reels

  • Category Optical Connectivity
  • Cable Type: Simplex, Duplex Cables, Multi-Fiber
  • Jacket Type: PE, CPE, PVC, PA, PUR
Molex offers a wide range of simplex and duplex step-index Plastic Optical Fiber (POF). Over decades this very high performance and cost effective fiber polymer technology (PMMA polymethylmethacrylate) for both cable core and cladding has gained acceptance in many applications due to the benefits over copper solutions. By using Plastic Optical Fiber, customers eliminate EMC and EMI issues in industrial applications. While copper may generate Electromagnetics noise in the environment, POF cables are immune to EM interferences and do not radiate EM noise; neither emitting nor receiving such signals. Therefore crosstalk between lines is avoided and clear signals are available over time. Molex also offers bus cables with POF elements (2, 6, and 8) stranded in one layer, as well as specific POF cables for fieldbuses (Sercos). Specific POF cable designs are possible to meet customer needs.
