Anchor Bolts

Anchor boltis a fastenerused to attach objects or structures to concrete. These are many types consisting of designs that are mostly proprietary to the manufacturing companies. All consist of a threaded end, to which a nut and washer can be attached to the external load.Theyare extensively used on all types of projects, from standard buildings to dams and nuclear power plants. They can also be used to firmly affix embed plates to a concrete foundation when used with a structural steel element.

The simplestanchor boltis a cast-in-place anchor. There are designs, some consisting of a bent bolt with a hook on the end, or some other sorts of bending like V, U, J, L.   • Firstly Coat the threads of the Anchor bolt with some electrical lubricant.
  • Install lowestnutsat thebolts, 1 oneverybolt.
  • Using thetoptemplate as aguide, levelthepinnacletemplatebyadjustingthe bottomnuts so that the template rests oneach nut.
  • Remove the template.
  • Coat the bearing surfaces of the bottomnuts and washers with lubricant.
  • Set up1washerand 1topnut oneachboltturnthetopnuts onto the boltsin order thateveryoneis hand-tightin opposition tothe base plate.
  • The use of a wrench, flipeverybottomnut toa snug tightsituation.
  • Prevent rotation of the nut in the situation ofalltopnut tightening.

Double End Stud

These bolts have equal thread length at both ends.

Each of them have different application.

Apart from these, there are stud bolts for flanges which are fully threaded with chamfered ends, and double ended with reduced shank for special bolting applications. For studs that are not completely threaded, there are two types of studs:

  1. Full-bodied studs: They have a shank equal to the major diameter of the thread. The stresses are greater in the threads than in the shank. They are weaker because metal is removed to create the thread, disturbing the grain of the steel.
  2. Undercut studs: They have a shank equal to the pitch diameterof the screw thread. They are designed to better distribute axial stresses. They (rolled thread) are also stronger because the metal is rolled up to the major diameter, not removed. This preserves the grain of the steel, and in some cases even enhances it.

Studs are only required in applications where it is exposed to fatigue. Cut threads are entirely suitable for many applications, even when rolled threads might be slightly stronger. Mass-produced fasteners (standard bolts and studs) are usually rolled but jobbed parts with custom features and small lot sizes are likely to be cut.
