Hookes Law Apparatus
For demonstration of Hookes Law. Consists of a metal rod mounted vertically on a stable base, a mirror scale 12cm long attached to the rod along with a support, a spring, a weight holder supplied with set of slotted weights. Vertical position of scale is adjustable along the length of the rod.
For demonstrating the relationship between extension produced in the spring to the applied load within elastic limits. Consists of a graduated scale mounted on the rod. The rod has a collar at the top from which a spring is suspended. The lower end of the spring carries a weight hanger with a built-in pointer, which moves along the scale when loaded with weights. This apparatus made in total 316 S.S. Pharmacy lab offers complete systems for aseptically filtering liquid samples. The sterility tests in these systems are done by the bacteria-retentive membranes filter method. A 47 mm membrane filter is installed in a suitable holder. The liquid sample is drawn through this sterile membrane filter to concentrate any contaminating micro-organisms on the filter surface. After filtration is completed, sterile flushing fluid is passed into the funnels, rinsing all sample residues through the filters so that is cannot possibly inhibit growth of the retained micro-organisms. After this, the filter is sectioned and aseptically transferred to media for culturing. If growth is not visible after the incubations period, the sample passes the text.

How It Works: A nylon rope is wrapped several times around the aluminium cylinder. Rotation of the crank performs a measurable amount of work. This in turn, rotates the cylinder. With the rotation of the crank, the friction between the rope and the aluminium cylinder is just enough to support a mass hanging at the other end of the rope ensuring that the torque acting on the cylinder is constant and measurable. A counter keeps track of the number of rotations. The work done in rotating the cylinder is converted into thermal energy due to the friction between the cylinder and the rope. This results in rise in the temperature of the cylinder, which can be noted by using the thermoelectric probe & digital multimeter. The ratio between the work done and the thermal energy produced and transmitted to the cylinder determines J, the mechanical equivalent of heat. With this apparatus, the value of J can be determined to an accuracy of within 5%.

Electrostatics Kit
For studying the concepts of electrostatics. The kit is designed to be used with the electroscope, which while being suitable for general work, also enables comparative measurements to be made on the activity of weak radio-active materials. The electroscope has an internal transparent scale divided in degrees. Removable glass panels are provided at the front and back, one clear and one ground. An insulated bush is fitted into the top of the case, which supports the metal hanger to which the metal leaf may be attached, and a 4mm socket earthing terminal is fitted at the side of the case. Two interchangeable electrodes are supplied, a 50mm disc on a peg and an elongated hook, which may be removed after charging, by using an insulating rod, thus isolating the gold leaf mount, reducing its capacity and increasing the sensitivity of the electroscope for radioactivity experiments. Kinetic Theory Apparatus
Demonstrates the kinetic theory of gases and associated phenomena such as thinning of air with increasing altitude etc. consists of a transparent cylindrical plastic tube with a rubber diaphragm attached to its lower end and a cap with holes at its upper end. The plastic tube rests in a cylindrical ring, which has three tightening screws equally spaced around the rim, for firm gripping of plastic tube.
Metal spheres of dia 1/8 are placed on the diaphragm, whose behavior is represented by the kinetic theory, when the apparatus is in operation. A piston is provided below the diaphragm, which is connected to a DC motor and is used for producing agitation in the metal spheres. Complete assembly is mounted on a base, with two 4mm socket terminal for electrical connection to the motor. Also included are expanded polystyrene pistons and four cardboard discs for loading pistons.
