Pitot Static Tube

A Pitot tube is used to measure the local velocity at a given point in the flow stress. A Pitot tube of standard design made of copper/Stainless Steel is supplied and is fixed below a vernier scale. The vernier scale is capable to measure the position of Pitot tube in transparent pipe section. The pipe has a flow control valve to regulate the flow. A manometer is provided to determine the velocity head.

Ion Exchange

The set up consists of two glass column packed with Anion and Cat ion exchanger resin up to suitable height. The layer of the glass wool is placed on top of the resin bed. The feed is allowed to enter from the bottom of the first column and comes out of the top, which is again passed through the second column in the same fashion. A digital conductivity meter measures the conductivity of liquid coming out of the second column. Flow rate of water is measured with the pre-calibrated Rotameter. A tank with FHP pump with flow control valve and by pass arrangement is provided for feed circulation

Experiments

Motorized Gyroscope

The set up consists of heavy disc mounted on a horizontal shaft, rotated by a variable speed motor. The rotor shaft is coupled to a motor mounted on a trunion frame having bearings in a yoke frame, which is free to rotate about vertical axis. A weight pan on other side of disc balances the weight of motor. Rotor disc can be move about three axis. Torque can be applied by calculating the weight and distance of weight from the center of rotor. The gyroscopic couple can be determined.

Experiments

  • Experimental justification of the equation T = 1 w. wp for calculating the gyroscopic couple by observation and measurement of results for independent vibrations in applied couple T and precession wp.
  • To study the gyroscopic effect of a rotating disc
