Diethylene glycol is a colourless liquid with a high boiling point. Deg is practically odourless and sweetish to taste. It is considerably hygroscopic in nature. Deg is miscible with water, alcohol, ether, acetone but is insoluble in benzene and carbon tetrachloride. Di-ethylene glycol is used in unsaturated polyester resins, coolants, pesticides, rubber compounding, plasticizer, polyurethane foams, textile auxiliaries, polyethylene glycols, paints etc. Deg can be transported in epoxy coated ms tankers.
