Heliconia is the only genus in the plant family heliconiacea, which is a member of a larger taxonomic category called the order Zingiberales. There are several very obvious characteristics by which they can be recognized, including large leaves and large, colorful, bracteate inflorecences.Most taxonomists recognize eight separate families in the zingiberales : Musacea (Bananas), Strelitziacea (Bird of Paradise), Lowiacea, Heliconiacea (Heliconias), Zingiberacea (Gingers), Costacea (Costus), Cannacea (Cannas) and Marantacea (Prayer Plants).

SPATHOGLOTTIS-includes about 40 species occurring from India across southeast Asia, China, Malay Archipelago, New Guinea, Australia and the islands of the south-west Pacific Ocean. New Guinea has the largest number of species;Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and the Philippines each have six; Thailand has five; Java three and there are two each in Sumatra and Australia. The name Spathoglottis comes from the Greek spathe– a spathe and glotta– tongue, and refers to the broad lamina of the lip.

Spirulina provides high concentrations of many nutrients - amino acids, chelated minerals, pigmentations, natural plant sugars, trace elements, enzymes - that are in an easily assimilable form. Even though it is single-celled, Spirulina is relatively large, attaining sizes of 0.5 millimeters in length. This is about 100 times the size of most other algae, which makes some individual Spirulina cells visible to the naked eye. Spirulina being a large sized algae is easy to be harvested as it grows into larger biomass. Spirulina is one of the blue-green algae's as it contains both chlorophyll (green) and phycocyanin (blue) pigments in its cell structure. It grows in highly alkaline Ph of 8.5 to 11 and this makes other microorganisms extinct in the spirulina ponds. It can survive in harsh environments and can multiplies well at 35 to 45 degrees C.
