the oldham 't' battery container is manufactured from transparent polycarbonate, very strong impact resistant material. The belt loops are moulded integrally with the back face of the battery container and a stainless steel cover protects the intercell fuse and battery terminals. The positive plate is of tubular construction where by the active material is held in a woven polyester fiber sleeve. The negative plate grids and the positive plate spines are cast from special alloy which enables the batter to operate with the minimum electrolyte loss. There is provision for topping up with distilled water (necessary only at very infrequent intervals).

The VRLA batteries manufactured and supplied by Exide Industries Ltd. conform to ROSO's specification: RDSO/ PE/ SPEC/ D/TL/ 0009-2008 (Rev1) with amendment No.1 latest amendment (for sealed maintenance free lead acid batteries for Trainlighting and airconditioning coaches).

Exide VRLA BatteriesExide Power safe VRLA Batteries have been developed by Exide R&D center, in close collaboration with Shin Kobe Electric Machinery Co. Ltd., Japan, the manufacturers of Hitachi batteries, and are suitable for stationary applications in Indian conditions. The overall battery package is essentially directed towards attending to the inevitable rigorous environmental factors under which batteries are expected to perform in India. These include prolonged elevated temperature operation, frequent charge/ discharge cycles and occasionally deep discharges.
Power safe Batteries use a proprietary composition of lead calcium and tin alloy for the positive grid. Alloys based on calcium are inherently of low float current characteristics. The grid alloy per se leads to low float current and hence low water loss and oxygen recombination. This inherently means that heat evolution in lead Calcium system is low. This, together with better thermal management, allows the Exide VRLA batteries to perform better in extreme temperatures.

Due to this water loss, there is a chance of the plate being exposed to air, which over a period of time can lead to hard Sulphate formation on the plate thereby reducing life and capacity.

EIL Traction Gel batteries are valve regulated, maintenance free batteries, unlike conventional batteries with liquid electrolyte they have immobilized electrolyte (Gelled sulphuric acid). Instead of a vent plug, a valve is used to regulate the internal gas pressure, preventing the ingress of oxygen from the air and allowing the escape of excess charging gasses. When operating valveregulated leadacid batteries the same safety requirements as for vented cells apply, to protect against hazards from electric current, from explosion of electrolytic gas and - with some limitations - from the corrosive electrolyte. Battery valves should never be removed.
