Application Methology :

• Heat gradually till the bitumen melts completely. Heat the required quantity only.
• Continuously stir to prevent local overheating. A thermometer should be used to ensure that the bitumen is not overheated or it will lose much of its properties
• Bitumen brought up to its normal working temperature is applied with a brush or by pouring and spreading using a rubber squeegee.

Health and Safety :

• Airless Spray Machine. Recommended equipment is a Graco Airless Spray machine with a fluid to air ratio of at least 45:1 with a variable electronic proportion set to a 3 resin: 1 hardener ratio.
• Standard equipment typically includes heated hoses, drum heaters, suction feed from 200 liters steel drums (feed pumps not required in most cases), re-circulation system, Gun with spray tips ranging from 0.021 to 0.035, stroke counter and automatic high-pressure shut-off system. Surface Preparation :

• Concrete : For new concrete allow 28 days cure. De-contaminateas per ASTM D-4258, then abrasive blast clean per ASTM D4259 to produce surface profile resembling coarse sandpaper. Eliminate leaks and infiltrations and remove standing water. Resurface areas with excessive cavities (bug-holes) or exposed aggregates using a highstrength, rapid cure, zero-shrinkage resurfacing product. Wherever possible, fiberglass screen or geo textile fabric may be embedded within coating to bridge, rather than resurface cavities, thereby eliminating resurfacing compounds. Apply nominal 5 mils (125) Polyhybrid 670-S Epoxy Primer, before top coating the concrete which may be damp to the touch, however, surfaces must be free of condensation and visible moisture. Vacuum the surface to dust-free condition beforepriming.
• Carbon Steel : For direct-to-metal application, decontaminate surface per SSPC SP-1 Solvent Cleaning if needed, then abrasive blast clean per SSPC SP-10 Near-White Condition to produce nominal 31/2 mil (88) surface profile. Remove flash rust per SSPC SP- 7 Brush-Off Blast Cleaning. Substrate must be dry and dust free before coating. Application to wet surfaces is not recommended.
