Serum tube has no additive. It is used for Serum storage that can be used for biochemistry, immunology and serology tests. It helps in keeping the serum stable for a longer period.

Potassium salts of EDTA are used as anticougulating agents for the preservation of whole blood. This can then be used for routine haematology tests including Complete Blood Count (CBC), Haemoglobin and Haematocrit, WBC count, RBC count, Platelet count, and HbA1C test. The special formulation also prevents platelet aggregation of the whole blood.

Glucose in unadultrated blood will be metabolised by the blood cells. The fluoride salts will stop this enzymatic activity and preserve the glucose values. This sampple can also be used to determine the HbA1C marker.

The additive is a buffered solution of trisodium citrate, which forms salts with the calcium in blood, inhibiting the coagulation cascade. The blood to additive ratio must be 1:9.

ESR Tube contains a 3.8% Sodium Citrate solution that facilitates anticoagulation for the Sedimentation rate test. The mixing ratio is 1:4 for solution to blood.
