Compression Type Loadcell

The envisaged Built-in Crane Weighing System consists of Compression type loadcells placed underneath the mechanical assembly supporting the equalizing barpulley. The typical arrangement is shown below.The output from the loadcells corresponding to the load applied is processed and displayed digitally in the indicator housed in crane control cabin. A separate parallel 50100200300 mm display is also provided at the girder of the crane to enable viewing of the weight from the floor. The system has a potential free contact that would be activated if the crane is over loaded. It is possible to transmit the data from the weighing electronics to a base station receiver through Wi-Fi or ZigBee protocol.There are options for the electronics to communicate with the crane PLC via analog output or any communication protocol such as MODBUS or Profibus.The power supply for the system is taken from the single phase AC 230V available in the Crane Cabin. A switch mode power supply is provided internally so that it will take care of voltage variation as well as spikes.Accelerometer utilizes the spring-mass system for generating a force proportional to the amplitude of the input acceleration to the base of the system. Force is applied to the piezoelectric (PE) element made of leadzirconate titan ate (PZT) material that produces a charge output proportional to the force. The PE material is self-generating and does not require an external power source.

Rope Tension Load Cell

Rope tension loadcells are very simple to install. However they can be installed only where there is a fixed non moving rope. The installation scheme is shown below.This arrangement would be able to measure the load on one rope of the total number of ropes of the crane. Therefore in principle the accuracy of this type of system would be the least. Double Shear Load Cell

The shearbeam load cell can be either cylindrical or rectangular. The strain gauges are placed at the bottom of the blind holes. The strain gauges are mounted on the beam at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis. When the load is applied to the beam, gauges along 45 degrees become longer (tension), along 135 degree become shorter (compression), thereby unbalancing the bridge. The shear beam load cell is insensitive to lateral forces, and point of application of torque is not critical. Shear Beam Loadcells with IP-68 protection is used mainly for Lorry Weigh Bridges.
