This page has a brief story on how the Braille Tutor concept evolved from an idea into a full-fledged product.
Quick Links on this page:When we presented it to the local blind school, the teachers and students at the school liked the concept, but implored us to add Speech Capability to the device so that it helps reduce effort of the teacher. That is how the device evolved! We promised to get it into the device some day, but didnt have a road map as to when.
Eventually, when We started this company (Ideas Unlimited) we mentored four Engineering students to build the Second prototype with speech capability as a technology demonstrator. Our company developed the speech playback software from a controllers flash memory, through a speaker which was integrated by the students into the second prototype they had built. But the memory in the controller was not sufficient to store large amounts of data and the students had limited time to do further work in their final year projects. The prototype proved the feasibility of adding speech to the device.
We have designed several proprietary software frameworks and hardware systems that form our IP for making High Quality front-ends for Control Systems and Applications. One of them is a Light-weight touch-enabled User Interface libraries for touch-enabling of a product. This technology was developed for a Home Automation application.
This Proprietary GUI designed with high-performance algorithms for use with 8-bit Microcontrollers. Employes several techniques similar to gaming software to make fast responsive GUI display.
The 'idea' behind this project was to build a generic touch enabled user interface that is easy to use, low cost and it can be adapted as the primary user interface for any kind of small and medium sized control applications. It can be adapted for control panels for consumer electronic products, industrial systems, CNC systems or just any system that requires a reasonably complex set of parameters to be managed on a user interface.
Neonatal Feedrail is a simple, easy to operate hospital/ICU equipment which can help in gavage feeding of Neonatal (Just-born or Premature) babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units.
This concept was envisaged by Dr. Srinivas Murthy (Asst Professor, Paedeatrics, JSS University and Hospital, Mysuru) to ease the work load on the staff nurses at JSS Hospital and utilize their time more productively. Ideas Unlimited engineered it into a prototype. We have developed two prototypes of this device so far.
JSS University (Part of Jagadguru Shri Shivarathreeshavara Math of Suttur) is the primary sponsor who provided the grant for the development, patenting and clinical trials and other formal processes required for the approval of this product.
Background: Feeding neonatal babies is a labourious, time consuming, delicate task which requires a degree of skill with the nurse doing the job. Babies have to be fed a few mililiters of milk every two hours average and round the clock. The rate of feed is very slow and assisted by gravity.Feedrail is an attempt to automate the laborious and manual parts of the process, bring consistency and stability in feeding.
At Ideas Unlimited, we have built several scale models/miniatures for certian projects/products. Some of the best miniatures/engineered scale models are show cased here.
The featured list includes:
We developed this optical (gray code based) encoder for a Bionics application. The encoder has a 9-bit digital output, with 1 degree resolution suitable for bionic and robotic sensing and control applications.
We modified existing pool lights which were Halogen type, and consumed 120 Watts for each such light. The same water proof enclosure with customized board having 2 X 10 Watt High intensity LED Lights now illuminate each of these under water pool lights.
This was built as part of an Apprenticeship project initially. It was developed and deployed successfully!
Net Power in Halogen: 120 Watts X 4 = 480 Watts Net Power in LED:20 Watts X 4 = 80 Watts
We engineered and got fabricated a metal/wooden bridge which would be used by people to cross a Lazy River attraction at GRS Fantasy Park, Myusuru.
This was the first time a water proof, climate proof, season proof Syntetic wood was being tried out at this Water Theme Park.
The project was designed, engineered, fabricated and commissioned on the site in a record 20 days.
Ideas Unlimited can develop Rugged Military standard Electroluminescent panels for Automotive, Military applications like Aicrafts, Helicopters etc.
The unique nature of EL Panel is that it provides uniform and mild illumination for the pilot/user and does not affect his night vision in the process. An on board EL Panel dimmer unit can even control the illumination levels of these EL Panels. The system works on a 115V, 400Hz or higher frequency supply to illuminate the panel. The dim halo of the illumination ensures optimal view of the complex control panels, while not affecting the night vision of the user.
Ideas Unlimited has been developing IOT Tech for customers for last 3-4 years. This is our fifth IOT technology effort and a major effort at that. Due to agreements with customers and/or nature of certain tech and its potential, we wont be publishing about all the projects executed by us on the website.
This framework was developed for an Australian company SENSITAL (www.sensital.com) to complement their iBOTics platform. This is a proprietary IOT framework developed from the scratch using open source Atmel ARM 32 bit controller based hardware (ATSAM3X8E on top of Arduino Due) and our own proprietary software stack mostly using open source software and TCP/IP.
There is no dependency on any third party IOT Frameworks (Google, Microsoft, IBM or AWS) etc for this IOT framework we developed for Sensital's iBOTics Platform. However, Sensital's iBOTics platform is designed to work with all frameworks in a generic manner, irrespective of under-lying technology.
Our IOT platform supports following Wireless Protocols between the IOT nodes and their IOT gateway for now.
The framework is designed to be extensible with more wireless or wired protocols at a later date with a little effort. Also the framework is designed to work with commodity cost hardware.
We developed quite a few Illuminating systems for use in Camera based applications for Saatvik Solutions LLP, Bengaluru. Saatvik Solutions are one of the best in Machine Vision driven Special Purpose Machines, Industrial Automation systems, Test and Inspection systems catering to a vartiety of industries.
These LED light based illuminators were developed and perfected over iterations.
Some of the high end illuminators we developed for them were:

Product developed from Idea -> Prototype -> Product
Ideas Unlimited and Ideas Manufacturing Mysore Private Limited have been working on this product for close to a year from the patented idea stage to making it a product.
This product has been in the pipeline for quite some years but due to pre-occupation with other work had not materialized. Now are are working to make this product a reality by March 2015.
Typically when you are away from home for more than a day or two, you are usually worried about giving an impression outside that nobody is at home. So the idea of a this Timer Switch, to automatically switch on and switch off various lights in your verandah and porch even if you are not at home was envisaged.
We have got the hardware and software right, and now we are close to software testing on this product. The product will have 4 programmable timers that can control 4 output lines independently. So the device can be programmed to switch on your outdoor/verandah lights daily irrespective of whether you are at home or not.
The product also has designed to suit Industrial needs as well, where certain equipment are not allowed to be operated within working hours of the company. A PIN enforcement feature is also provided so that settings cannot be tampered by anyone.
The product is not yet in a completed form as software testing is going on right now. We are providing a sneak peak of some of the screens/features of the product.
The IR Remote generates a 36Khz carrier wave, on which binary bits are Bi-phase encoded (Manchester encoding) with a constant bit time for each bit in the sequence. There are many other protocols that use different methods of modulation on the carrier.
We have developed Xmitter and Reciever IP for use in various control and automation applications and products that we develop. The prototype shown below is was built using a design we developed with an effort of several months. We can now build custom Remote Controls and reciever modules.
We have developed technologies/products/OEM Electronics (and/or embedded software) for our customers. Some of these are products where customers require highly reliable partners for their embedded/electronic systems development while, they focus on their core area of business and expertise.
Brushless DC Motor driver is one such product we have developed and taken to productioni.
We already have a hall-sensor based, hi-power BLDC Motor driver. We are also working on a sensor-less Brushless DC motor design as well.
We have designed and prototyped a low-cost, high reliability driver for an industrial motor for our customer. The driver PCB has met some of the stringent specifications for end users and verified during our DVTs (Design Validation Testing).
This product has gone through the full product life cycle development at our setup right from prototype to actual product including product sustenance support (including manufacturing).

Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism. Bioluminescence is a naturally occurring form of chemiluminescence where energy is released by a chemical reaction in the form of light emission.
Fireflies, anglerfish, and other creatures produce the chemicals luciferin (a pigment) and luciferase (an enzyme). The luciferin reacts with oxygen to create light. The luciferase acts as a catalyst to speed up the reaction, which is sometimes mediated by cofactors such as calcium ions or ATP (Adenosine triphosphate). The chemical reaction can occur either inside or outside the cell. In bacteria, the expression of genes related to bioluminescence is controlled by an operon called the Lux operon.

Ideas Unlimited developed this for CFTRI (http://www.cftri.com - Central Food and Technological Research Institute, Mysore), for one of their projects to develop a low cost silicon photo-diode based Luminometer, which can detect very low intensity of Bio-Luminescence emitted by biological reactions.
CFTRI is working on Bio-luminescence based applications for detection of food contamination and other applications. In this initiative, as a first step, Ideas Unlimited has conceptualized and designed some prototype setups for experimenting with a silicon photo-diode to sense different bio-luminescence reactions and comparing results generated with lab grade equipment which use more expensive Photo-multiplier tubes.
A low cost, portable Luminometer, if developed will have tremendous applications in the fields of Agriculture, Food Inspection and Quality Control, Contamination detection, Clinical Pathology and Medical fields.
We have nearly 5 families of Movement Sensors suitable for various needs. Visit our manufacturing company's website (www.ideasmfg.in
We have developed a concept called 'Design to Site' along with 'Ace Technologies, Bengaluru'. This methodology helps in better planning resulting in quicker construction with far better quality than normal construction methods.
As part of this Design to Site concept, we have also developed certain tools that help in making construction better, faster and quality oriented.

Masonry has been one of the popular construction methods available for the ages. Masonry is simply the art of laying brick or block with mortar in between. Traditionally, it has been exploited for beauty and its integrity in construction. Clay bricks and Stone blocks have been used for thousands of years in the construction of monuments, temples, palaces and many other structures. Masonry has proven its durability even in earthquake situations.
Examples of masonry structures are the Qutb Minar, Meenakshi Temple Gopuram, Gol Gumbaz and many other structures all over the world. The modern avatar of the traditional masonry block has been the Concrete Masonry Block, commonly called as EMU (Engineered Masonry Unit). Blocks can be solid or hollow. Both are load bearing.
The block of choice is the Hollow Engineered Load bearing Block which can be used to build upto six storeys without the need of a framed Column and Beam structure. This modern innovation has changed the way of construction in the Western world and now we have the opportunity to present it to you in India. This is especially useful keeping in mind the present situation where labor is expensive and cost of construction is going up everyday.
Ace Technologies have been promoting the adoption of Block Masonry in construction which has many advantages over conventional construction technologies followed in India. The biggest advantages are:
Ideas Unlimited developed a Prototype of system that switches automatically between biogas and LPG Gas for a kitchen stove for NIE-CREST. NIE-CREST has their own website detailing all their activities at this URL: www.niecrest.in
We have been developing a variety of wearable electronic systems for use in Defence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Specialized Robotic/Bionics applications in our lab.
One such technology developed is closed to being commercialized. This is a debug logger watch that can be driven off using embedded electronic system power and it has a 8 line display that can show and scroll debug log data.
This prototype is a wired version, and we may build a wireless version of the same device soon.
This was developed as a debugging device for robotic/bionic applications by Ideas Unlimited.
We built a miniature simulator/Scale models of many larger systems for marketing/training and other applications. One/Few such miniature scale model simulators we built for domestic/MNC Customers are featured on this page.
Note: We cannot share much more details on these simulators due to agreements/NDAs with customers.
Ideas Unlimited developed a Pneuamtic based Launcher platform to launch people to a sliding ride at GRS Fantasy Park (Water Theme Park) in Mysuru.
This pneumatic driven launching system reduces the effort of staff assiting people on to the rides, especially during peak load days and conditions. Also it takes into account safety of the ride as utmost importance in its design and execution at site.
This launcher was designed for an existing ride, with minimal changes at the installation spot as well as minimum down time of the ride at the site. It has been commissioned and working since the next day!
When an old classmate who was involved in a one of its kind Crowd Funded Children's feature film project (Social themed Kannada Children's Movie Jeerjimbe), and asked if a novel poster for attracting children can be made with an initial idea, we designed a low cost animated poster that is rugged enough to be put up at movie multiplexes as a Prototype.
Jeerjimbe has bagged 4 Government of Karnataka state film awards, Producer of Movie is Mr. Karthik Shekhar from M/s Beehive Production.
The movie is named after the jewel beetle - at the ripe age, the beetle's wings are cut and the wings are used to make ornaments and jewels while the beetle is let to die.
The attempt, through this movie, is to showcase the struggle of a girl coming to age.
We develop many software routinely to make development of a technology/analysis and testing of a system easier. Some such software are featured below:
When a good customer of ours approached us asking if we could build a door bell that 'literally rings a bell' when someone rings it, we were both amused and thrilled because of the fun quotient.
As part of building a miniature/simulator we built several tech and smaller products. One of the items that came out of this was the miniature toggle clamp!
Embedded Web Server Concept for Automation applications
This web server can be used to web-enable any automation systems. The trigger for this development was the need of a customer for low cost remote monitoring of parameters in an industrial setup.
The Embedded Web Server is implemented on a generic off-the-shelf Embedded Ethernet Development kit, using freely available TCP/IP stack and HTTP server open source software. The software has been adapted for the specific purpose of Home automation in this demo. We also utilizing it for industrial automation applications.
Engineered Bottle Light for RCC roofs - Free Light for Life!
Quick Links on this page:
How does it work?
This concept was inspired from the 'Coke Bottle Light' that are used in housing projects in Asia and ASEAN nations.
The difference between the original Coke Light and our Glass Bottle Light is that, our concept is an engineered one. So it takes into consideration the common conerns and details for execution in a typical house with RCC roof construction. This can be adapated to other roofing technologies as well!
GRS Fantasy Park, Mysuru created Fiber glass mascots for placing them at various locations of the park, to guide visitors and also as a spot where children can take pictures of themselves with the mascot.
We at Ideas Unlimited, designed and built an electro-mechanical mechanism with a control system to enable the mascot to nod its head and waves its hand in a synchronized fashion, which will add to the WOW Factor.
On Startup, the mascot aligns its head/hand to a preset start position and then starts off teh synchronized movements.
Our eco-system from development to providing manufacturing support, spanning 2 companies requires a lot of tracking and verification of Bill Of Material (BOM), Version control of BOM, Physical Material (components, raw material, parts to be fabricated) and so on.
Our operations are unique since we have a full eco-system that starts from idea stage -> POC -> Working Prototype -> Product which spans across two companies. During this course of converting from idea to product and eventually to bulk manufacture it is extremely important to manage the operations effectively with good tracking of material and processes involved. So we decided to build a custom ERP Software that helps in our unique eco-system - which can help us right from Prototype to productioon stage.
We have so far made 4 new releases of software as we built our Manufacturing operations at Ideas Manufacturing Mysore Private Limited.
Some of the features we have planned for this software:
We have also developed innovative low-cost, but good looking concepts like designing and constructing an Indoor Swimming Pool.
This swimming pool was completely modeled, designed as per specifications upfront in a computer, and then built in reality. Including the colors were finalized well before the digging for the pool started. 3D models are developed to address all aspects of construction of such a system.
Photos below show the 3D models developed and the photos of the physical pool at various stages of construction.
We have been developing a variety of wearable electronic systems for use in Defence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Specialized Robotic/Bionics applications in our lab.
We can showcase only limited number of technologies on this page due to Non Disclosure agreements with customers and nature of some of the technologies. However we have many more wearable technologies related developments going on in our lab.
Some of the unique tech we have developed are:
This had its genesis in The Glove project made in our lab by a few apprentices. From that early glove, it has come this far where it is professionally made with a lot of man months of engineering going behind these kind of wearable electronics systems.

Persistence of vision refers to the optical illusion whereby multiple discrete images blend into a single image in the human mind and believed to be the explanation for motion perception in cinema and animated films.
The same concept is employed in devices like this to give an illusion of a full frame picture/moving picture.
We developed this Persistence of Vision Embedded hardware and portions of embedded software for a Startup in Mysuru called RevEngg. (www.revengg.com). RevEngg is startup started by a group of students, while still studying in College.
This device consists of a rotating PCB on which a microcontroller, 20 RGB LEDs are placed. When the PCB rotates, a colorful display is generated by time slicing the rotation in microseconds. The timing has to be precise to show the clear picture.
