Requirements To Operate The Hydraulic Sleeper Laying Machine

• An auxillary track of 3.4 meter gauge is laid matching the centre line of the new track
• An unloading base is designated for incoming sleepers on dedicated 40 sleeper trailers
• The base should have auxillary track such that the incoming trailers can go within the aux track for unloading by this machine with specially designed beam structure arrangement
• The beam structure is used to grip, release, space, anchor and tighten alternate sleepers on to its body

Off Track Tamper Machine is a small size hydraulic tamping machine characterized by compact construction which make it extremely handy and extremely useful

long service life. It derives hybrid nature from construction and working efficiency that lies between light On-Track Tamper and Hand Held Off-track Tamper.

It can be used to pack the track ballast under PRC sleepers at a significantly higher speed with much less effort or fatigue to an operator as compared to typical hand-held off-track tamper.

It is principally intended for the smaller section of track under construction in railway yards, depots, and sidings.

The machine is robust and rugged by design and is off-Trackable, to work without traffic block with normal track protection i.e. Off-tracking device can be used to remove the tamper from the track in the event of track usage by other construction teams (trolleys/railroad vehicles).

Tamper uses the hydraulic cylinder for lifting and lowering of tamping arms and the double column for guiding direction. Tamper consist of two tamping units, that are used in conjunction for tamping operation. The tamping tool is made of hard steel for prolonged life. The machine is equipped with emergency devices such as hand press, oil pump, and safety lock, to work safely and reliably. The machine is easy to operate and low maintenance by design. The tamper is most suitable for first second through packing on sections ranging from few kilometres to up to 100 kilometres or more.

The machine is capable of packing 100 sleepers per group per effective hour. Generally, another team works ahead of this tamper for track alignment and lifting.

performs all function of a full fledged tamping machine

to ensure track geometry is corrected, most tamping machines use a two chord lining system (one for vertical alignment and one for horizontal alignment). The two chord system requires three reference trolleys fitted to the machine - usually called a point, b point and c point. Some machines will use a fourth point between b and c to carry out quality control measurements.

a point is always the front reference point and sits on uncorrected track. The anchorage for chords on a point are able to move to compensate for defects in track geometry - this is done by the "tower" operator. Depending on the chord system, the anchorages will be either a wire anchor or a light source.

b point is positioned as close as physically possible to the lifting lining unit. B point is used by the machine control system to position the track correctly using either potentiometers or optical filters, depending on type of chord system used.

c point is the rear-most measuring point and anchorage point for lifting and lining chords. Depending on type of chord system c point will be either wire anchor with a tensioning cylinder or a photoelectric light receiver.

all three points are individual rail trolleys able to freely move up, down, left and right independent of the machine chassis and hence follow any minor fluctuation in rail position. When working, the machine uses pneumatic cylinders to lightly push these trolleys into the selected datum rail both vertically and horizontally.

when using this method, the tower operator positions a point anchorages according to existing track geometry measurements taken beforehand. Once a point has been positioned, it is then assumed that both a and c are in correct position as if machine were sitting on corrected track. The machine then uses the lifting lining unit to move the rail and b point in line with a and c.

a less common method more often seen on tamping head attachments for excavators is to use a motor driven vibrator assembly that is directly bolted to the support frame.
