Our exhibition quality Begonia Double Mixed Bulbs or Tubers will flower all summer long and are frequently used as container plants. Begonia tubers are perfect for growing in containers. The tuberous type of begonia is also very popular around the world as a bedding plant and also as a greenhouse plant. The tuberous Begonia is mainly grown for their flowers.    

Broom is the name of a group of attractive shrubs.Yellow broom flower is the most common, however more than 100 species grow in Europe, Asia, and Africa.It was intentionally introduced to B.C. in 1850 by Captain Walter Grant who planted broom at his farm on Vancouver Island. Regrettably, few realized the evasiveness of this perennial as it quickly spread up the east coast of Vancouver Island before invading the Gulf Islands and mainland.  Some types of broom plants are used to make dyes. The Scotch broom, a native of Europe, is grown in the United States. Many of its green branches are leafless or almost without leaves. The showy, yellow flowers are shaped like butterflies. Cytisus scoparius is a deciduous, perennial shrub that grows up to 3m tall. It begins to reproduce when it is approximately three years old and usually lives from 10-15 years. After flowering, it forms black seed pods, carrying an average of 5-9 seeds that disperse after the pods audibly 'pop' open! Scotch broom is known as a 'prolific seed producer' with up to 18, 000 seeds per plant which spread by wind, small animals, water and humans. These seeds are protected with a seed coat that can delay germinating for over 30 years. As mentioned, it has yellow flowers (sometimes white or red) that attract large bees to deliver its pollen. Scotch broom is adapted to tolerate drought conditions with its deep taproot, reduced leaf area, photosynthetically active stems, and a thick wax coating to prevent water loss. It prefers open sites because it is generally shade intolerant, thriving in dry to very dry soils. This plant also tends to acidify surrounding soil, preventing other species from establishing.

Ranunculus or commonly known as Buttercup and often referred to as the rose of the spring, is characterized by incredible colors, straight stems, long vase life and copious blooms. Its Tubers produce multi-petaled plump flowers with papery textures and vivid hues that glow like stained glass in sunlight. Growing Ranunculus Growing Ranunculus flowers starts with planted roots or tubers. Often called Ranunculus bulbs, tubers are different but have similar structures and purposes to the more common bulb. Plant the bulbs or tubers in fall for a glorious spring display. Growing Ranunculus flowers requires well-drained soil and full sun for best results. Cut when flowers first show color, in the early morning after they have had the night to recharge themselves with moisture. For an additional day or two of vase life, add any floral preservative to the water. 

Poinsettias, locally known as Lalupate ( Nepali)  in Darjeeling, are traditional Christmas flowering plants that lasts throughout the Christmas season. Poinsettia is indigenous to Mexico and Central America where they call it 'Taxco del Alarcon'. In Mexico and Guatemala as Flor de Noche Buena, meaning Christmas Eve Flower. Particularly well known for its red and green foliage and is widely used in Christmas floral displaysThe Poinsettia flower is actually a special types of leaves known as bracts rather than being flowers.

Cypress trees have a straight trunk that tapers at the base, giving it a soaring perspective. In cultivated landscapes, they grow 50 to 80 feet tall with a spread of 20 to 30 feet. These deciduous conifers have short needles with a feathery appearance. Most varieties have needles that turn brown in winter, but a few have lovely yellow or gold fall color.      Bald cypress has a tendency to form “knees, ” which are pieces of root that grow above the ground in odd and sometimes mysterious shapes. Knees are more common for trees grown in water, and the deeper the water, the taller the knees. Some knees reach a height of 6 feet. Although no one is sure about the function of knees, they may help the tree get oxygen when they are underwater. These projections are sometimes unwelcome in the home landscape because they make mowing difficult and they can trip passers-by. How to Care for Cypress Trees Growing cypress trees successfully depends on planting the in the right location. Choose a site with full sun or partial shade and rich, acid soil. Cypress trees are hardy is USDA zones 5 through 10. Drench the soil around the tree after planting and cover the root zone with 3 to 4 inches of organic mulch. Give the tree a good soaking every week for the first few months. Cypress trees need water most in spring when they enter a growth spurt and in fall just before they go dormant. They can withstand occasional drought once established, but it’s best to water them if you haven’t had a drenching rain for more than a month.   Wait a year after planting before fertilizing a cypress tree for the first time. Cypress trees growing in a regularly fertilized lawn don’t generally need additional fertilizer once established. Otherwise, fertilize the tree every year or two with a balanced fertilizer or a thin layer of compost in fall. Spread a pound of balanced fertilizer for each inch of trunk diameter over an area approximately equal to the spread of the canopy.
