Single phase induction motors are not self rotating due to the lack of synchronously rotating magnetic field. At this juncture the Motor Run capacitor comes in picture. The main purpose of these capacitors is to generate an effective rotary field in single phase motors with two or three stator windings to allow them to be operated on a single phase supply.

The capacitors, in this case, remain in circuit during the whole running period of the motor. They are, therefore, ideally suited for single phase motors for use in pumps, fans, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigeration systems etc.

By employing the auxiliary winding for power output, a better utilization of the single phase motor is obtained, which is approximately 90 % of the output of the similar rating three phase motor.

The capacitor start motor is the most widely used among various types of single phase motors. Connecting a capacitor in series with the starting winding achieves the starting torque with a lower starting current leading to a torque that is higher than other types of single phase motors like the shaded pole type. Thus, for machines which have a heavy starting duty, these capacitors are ideal. A capacitor start motor comes with a centrifugal switch which automatically disconnects the auxiliary winding when motor attains a pre determined speed. Hence, it works only with the help of the main winding.

A capacitor connected to a motor develops a higher voltage across it than that applied to the motor. Hence, designing the Motor start capacitor is more important.

Normally The Electrode Material I. E. Aluminum Foil Has Sharp Points At Slit Edge Which Causes High Stress At The Sharp Points Causing Damage To The Capacitor. To Overcome This Phenomenon The Edge Of Aluminum Foil Is Folded Such That No Sharp Points Left Over. This Folding Forms A Ring Named As Corona Ring. After This, Capacitor Is Impregnated With NON-PCB, NON-TOXIC Bio gradable, Eco Friendly Oil Under Vacuum Which Enhances Life Of Capacitor.
Such Capacitors Under Go Rigorous Testing Before Painting And Dispatch To Concern Customers.

REPAIRS OF CAPACITORS: -

During The Process Of Repairs Of These Capacitors The Capacitors Are Opened First.Then The Entire Elements Are Checked Visually And Those Elements, Fuse Of Which Blown, Are Removed From The Stack. These Faulty Elements Are Replaced With Good Elements And The Capacitor Is Put For Initial Testing. During This Testing If Any Other Element Is Faulty It Also Blows Off. Then The Same Is Also Replaced With Good One. After This The Capacitor Is Put For Final Testing And After Passing The Testing The Capacitor Is Sealed, Painted And Dispatched To Concern Customers.
