Iron Oxides

Synthetic Iron Oxides have become increasingly important due to their pure hue, consistent properties, and tinting strength. Single-component forms are mainly produced with red, yellow, orange and black colours. Their composition corresponds to that of minerals hematite, goethite, lepidocrocite, and magnetite. Brown pigments usually consist of mixtures of red and/or yellow and/or black iron oxides.

Historically, the Iron Oxides market has grown at a 2%-4% per year growth rate. There have been cyclical ups and downs but over a long term, this rate holds true. Its current use is mostly in construction, coatings, ceramics, paint, ink, rubber, plastics, cosmetics etc.

The building materials industry is the biggest user of Iron Oxide Pigments. Uses include colouring concrete and mortar because of their good dispersability and good tinting strength. They are extensively used in the manufacture of Paving Blocks, Chequered Tiles, Designer Tiles, Stamped Concrete etc.

Paints industry is the second largest user of Iron Oxide Pigments. Most paint applications require use if micronized and dispersible grades of pigments to get optimum colouring effects and maintain paint film strength.

Pigments used in Plastics need high purity, tinting strength, high heat resistance and good dispersibility.

Special applications include that in Ceramic Colours, Drugs, Cosmetics, Rubber, Brake Linings, Wood Polish, Cork Sheets, Fertilizers and Cattle Feed. New applications include catalysts in petroleum industry, in oil drilling rigs, in compound pigments, copy machine powder, and magnetic differentiate materials.

A number of different processes have been developed for manufacturing Synthetic Iron Oxide Pigments. The most important actually used production methods are-

  • Laux Process In the Laux Process Iron Oxides are obtained as a by-product of the aniline process. The main pigment obtained is Black Iron Oxide, partially also Yellow Iron Oxide. These pigments are sold directly or used for preparation of Red Iron Oxide in the Calcination Process.
  • Calcination Process The Calcination Process  uses Black Iron Oxide to oxidize it to Red or Yellow Iron Oxide to dehydrate it to red, too. High temperatures are required for this process. A precise control of the process parameters also allows the production of brown pigments.
  • Penniman Process The Penniman Process reacts metallic iron to Iron Oxide using oxygen from air and acids as catalysts. Recently the process has been developed further to also give high quality red and black pigments.
  • Precipitation Process In the Precipitation Process iron salts react with caustic soda in the presence of air or oxygen. This process is controlled by temperature, pH, purity, concentration, mix design and reaction velocity. The several parameters influencing the product makes the precipitation process technically the most complicated but also produces pigments with an extremely high quality.

Wall Putty

"WONDER" WALL PUTTY is white cement & mineral based putty for use on cement concrete - mortar interior / exterior walls for smoother & stronger adhesion and best suited to minimize paint cost and extend it's durability. Use of best quality imported additives and an advanced manufacturing process makes it better than other wall putties due to its better water resistance, workability, smoothness and durability.

Characteristics of "WONDER" WALL PUTTY
  • "WONDER" WALL PUTTY is equally good for application on interior & exterior walls. It is applied on both new or used wall surface after proper readiness. After application the finish is smooth and does not require primer coat before application of distemper or paint.
  • It is odourless & antifungal. It does not require any curing after application. It has good adherence and is water resistant and hence can be applied on wet surface.
  • Prevents water seepage / leakage through cracks / voids in mortar-concrete.
  • Storage life is about 10-12 months. Store in dry & cool place. It is non-toxic.
  • Depending upon the smoothness of the surface, 1 Kg. of "WONDER" WALL PUTTY will cover an area upto 2.5 sq.mt/mm thickness.

Available in 25kg consumer pack and 40 kg bulk economy pack

Application system & precautions
  • The surface should be made free from unwanted adhering materials with wire brush/emery paper.
  • Make a paste of "WONDER" WALL PUTTY with water and apply on the already moistened surface in upward direction uniformly with putty blade. On drying remove the projected marks gently with putty blade. After about 2-4 hrs. apply second coat of wall putty and see that the total thickness of putty on the wall is about 1½ mm. Allow the surface to dry completely and remove any marks with putty blade & then rub the surface gently with very fine emery paper before application of paint.
  • Mix the putty thoroughly to get best results and prepare only that much quantity which can be consumed in 1 hour. In case of new surface apply 1 or 2 coats of white cement wash prior to application of putty to get the best results.

Adhesive

WONDERFIX is a cement, minerals and imported additives based tile adhesive that has been specially formulated for installation of tiles & stone on interior & exterior facades, wet & dry areas, walls, floors, ceilings, new & remodel constructions, residential or commercial applications. It is made of best quality white and grey cement combination, sand and imported additives. Even the sand is carefully selected, graded and only the correct grain size is used during manufacturing. Additives are of best international brands that make the adhesive fast setting, easily workable and provide strength to the tile.

  • Clean the floor/wall surface to remove dust, oil & grease etc. properly so that there is no hindrance in adhesion.
  • Note that there must be a gap of 28 days from concrete casting or 7 days from cement plastering before tiling is done.
  • Mix WONDERFIX and clean water in the ratio of 5:1 by volume. Pour water in a container and add WONDERFIX slowly along with continuous stirring and mixing and prepare a consistent and thick mix.
  • Apply the mix on the floor/wall surface in appropriate thickness using a trowel. 2 mm bed thickness for wall and 3 mm for floor must be kept.
  • Ensure that the tiles are fully supported by adhesive. Apply adhesive at back of tiles, if required to accommodate level.
  • Tap the tiles gently with a wooden hammer after laying for proper fixing / leveling.
  • Allow at least 24 hrs time to gain proper bonding strength.
  • The bigger the size of tile is in the notch of the trowel (from to ) and lesser is the coverage (4 to sq. mt.) per 25 kg. bag
