Saxenda® is an injectable medicine used for adults with excess weight who may also have weight-related medical problems or obesity and children aged 12-17 years old.

Liraglutide, sold under the brand names Victoza and Saxenda among others, is an anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes, and chronic obesity. It is a second-line therapy for diabetes following first-line therapy with metformin.

After 4 weeks of treatment, Saxenda users saw an average weight loss of b 3-4% of their starting body weight. After 2 months of treatment, people lost an average of 5% of their body weight, when Saxenda was combined with a healthy diet and exercise.

Saxenda (liraglutide) is used for weight loss and to help keep weight off once weight has been lost, it is used for obese adults or overweight adults who also have weight-related medical problems. Saxenda can be used in children aged 12 to 17 years who with obesity and who have a bodyweight above 132 pounds (60 kg).

Saxenda (liraglutide [rDNA origin] injection) is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. GLP-1 is a physiological regulator of appetite and calorie intake, and the GLP-1 receptor is present in several areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation.
