These are specially designed for transformer pipelines to control Oil at an elevated temperature as well as for drainage of oil.Types of Valves used for such application are Gate Type, Globe Type, Ball Type, Butterfly Type. Gate Valves are used primarily as stop valves, i.e., fully open or fully closed. They are not normally considered for throttling purpose. They are suited for high pressure and high temperature use with a wide variety of fluids. They are not usually used for the slurries, viscous fluids etc.

Gate Valves usually have a low pressure drop when fully open, provide a tight seal when fully closed, and are relatively free of contamination build up. Gate Valves are prone to vibration when in a partially open state and are also subject to seat and disc wear. Some large size gate valves are not recommended for steam services. The flow passes from the inlet port through these at to outlet port. The types differ mainly in the orientation of the seat to the direction of flow through the valve.

Butterfly valves consist of a rotating circular plate or a pair of hinged semicircular plates, attached to a transverse spindle and mounted inside a pipe in order to regulate or prevent flow.
