The purpose of Open Top Chamber (OTCs) is to study response of plants in high CO2 and other gas in environment with precise control and regulation of desired CO2, Temp and humidity inside the OTCs. Open Top Chambers (OTCs) is an innovative and cost effective approach to investigate effects of elevated CO2, Temperature and Humidity on the growth dynamics and yield response of plants.

The Exponentially rising of temperature in environment is major problem now days. Due to these the rise in concentration of CO2 which effectively influence the productivity of various agricultural crops. Innovative approaches for conducting long-term experiment on plant have been developed to investigate the growth and yield response of different plants to predicted elevated level of CO2. Accuracy of result depends on the system and its maintenance of the desired level of CO2 with natural conditions. For that fully automated system has been developed, which helps to agricultureenvironmental research scientist to carry out research work for future scope on effect of CO2 level under different climatic conditions.

Dimension of TGT is 15mt to 50 meter (L) X2.5 (W) X2mt. (H) constructs with MS pipe and covered with a polycarbonate sheet of more than 85 % transparency. Sophisticated air blowing heating facilities for achieving different gradient of 1 to 5 deg C from one end of the tunnel to another. A dedicated reliable control monitoring system are required for online monitoring of temperature & humidity with fixed sensors at 3mt interval.

The objective of the project is to study the effect of low CO2 concentration with special reference to physiological and biochemical changes occurred on high altitude plants. Gradient CO2 concentration is maintained with controlled air flow pass through one end to other end of the tunnel and it is observed that approximate 100 ppm CO2 concentration has been reduced (in respect to ambient) inside tunnel during the study.
