How Dehumidifier Works

 

The Main function of the Industrial desiccant dehumidifier is to remove moisture content from the air in given atmosphere or in a given environment. This is accomplished by exposing the air to an adsorbing media (desiccant) in a sealed air stream (process). After the desiccant has adsorbed moisture, it is exposed to a second air stream at an elevated temperature (reactivation). This causes the moisture to be driven out of the desiccant preparing it for more moisture adsorption. This process is done on a continuous basis, providing a constant drying process. The two air streams (process and reactivation) are separated by seals, which contact the desiccant media. The functioning outline of this dehumidifier can be easily understandable from the Fig.1 The dehumidifier is designed with the two air streams flowing in opposite directions simultaneously thereby maximizing the energy efficiency of the equipment in terms of energy removal.The Desiccant used by Hygro Tech is non-toxic, non-flammable with maximum moisture removal capacity.

Introduction to air-cooled heat exchangers

 

Water shortage and increasing costs, together with more recent concerns about water pollution and cooling tower plumes, have greatly reduced industry's use of water cooled heat exchangers. Consequently, when further heat integration within the plant is not possible, it is now usual to reject heat directly to the atmosphere, and a large proportion of the process cooling in refineries and chemical plants takes place in Air Cooled Heat Exchangers (AC-HEs).

 

There is also increasing use of Air Cooled Condensers for power stations. The basic principles are the same but these are specialized items and are normally configured as an A-frame or "roof type". These condensers may be very large-the condensers for a 4000 MW power station in South Africa have over 2300 tube bundles, 288 fans each 9.1 m in diameter and a total plot area 500 m X 70 m.

 

AC-HEs for process plants are normally just called Aircoolers, but should not be confused with devices for cooling air (best described as Air Chillers).

 

The design of an AC-HE is more complex than for a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger, as there are many more components and variables.

 

The structure of an AC-HE is painted or galvanized, depending on customer specification. However, the costs are roughly the same if a multiple coat paint system is specified. Often the painted units are more expensive. There seems to be a trend toward more galvanized structures because they require virtually no maintenance. Painted structures require touch-up after installation and they often rust anyway.

Air-cooled heat exchangers are used extensively throughout the oil and gas industry, from upstream production to refineries and petrochemical plants, under high pressure and high temperature conditions, as well as corrosive fluids and environments.

An evaporative condenser is a condenser integrated into a cooling tower which rejects the latent heat of condensation of refrigerant (Ammonia/Freon) through a coil to the surroundings by means of evaporation.Water sprayed onto the coil exchanges heat with the refrigerant. A small quantity of water is evaporated into the air thereby cooling the remaining water cascading to the basin at the bottom. Post evaporation the saturated air passes through the drift eliminators and then forced out using a fan.

Construction And Working Of Evaporative Condenser :

In evaporative condensers, both air and water are used to extract heat from the condensing refrigerant. Figure shows the schematic of an evaporative condenser. Evaporative condensers combine the features of a cooling tower and water-cooled condenser in a single unit. In these condensers,  the water is sprayed from top part on a bank of tubes carrying the refrigerant and air is induced upwards. There is a thin water film around the condenser tubes from which evaporative cooling takes place. The heat transfer coefficient for evaporative cooling is very large. Hence, the refrigeration system can be operated at low condensing temperatures (about 11 to 13 K above the wet bulb temperature of air). The water spray counter current to the airflow acts as cooling tower. The role of air is primarily to increase the rate of evaporation of water. The required air flow rates are in the range of 350 to 500 m3/h per TR of refrigeration capacity.

How Dehumidifier Works

 

The Main function of the Industrial desiccant dehumidifier is to remove moisture content from the air in given atmosphere or in a given environment. This is accomplished by exposing the air to an adsorbing media (desiccant) in a sealed air stream (process). After the desiccant has adsorbed moisture, it is exposed to a second air stream at an elevated temperature (reactivation). This causes the moisture to be driven out of the desiccant preparing it for more moisture adsorption. This process is done on a continuous basis, providing a constant drying process. The two air streams (process and reactivation) are separated by seals, which contact the desiccant media. The functioning outline of this dehumidifier can be easily understandable from the Fig.1 The dehumidifier is designed with the two air streams flowing in opposite directions simultaneously thereby maximizing the energy efficiency of the equipment in terms of energy removal.The Desiccant used by Hygro Tech is non-toxic, non-flammable with maximum moisture removal capacity.

Introduction to air-cooled heat exchangers

 

Water shortage and increasing costs, together with more recent concerns about water pollution and cooling tower plumes, have greatly reduced industry's use of water cooled heat exchangers. Consequently, when further heat integration within the plant is not possible, it is now usual to reject heat directly to the atmosphere, and a large proportion of the process cooling in refineries and chemical plants takes place in Air Cooled Heat Exchangers (AC-HEs).

 

There is also increasing use of Air Cooled Condensers for power stations. The basic principles are the same but these are specialized items and are normally configured as an A-frame or "roof type". These condensers may be very large-the condensers for a 4000 MW power station in South Africa have over 2300 tube bundles, 288 fans each 9.1 m in diameter and a total plot area 500 m X 70 m.

 

AC-HEs for process plants are normally just called Aircoolers, but should not be confused with devices for cooling air (best described as Air Chillers).

 

The design of an AC-HE is more complex than for a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger, as there are many more components and variables.

 

The structure of an AC-HE is painted or galvanized, depending on customer specification. However, the costs are roughly the same if a multiple coat paint system is specified. Often the painted units are more expensive. There seems to be a trend toward more galvanized structures because they require virtually no maintenance. Painted structures require touch-up after installation and they often rust anyway.

Air-cooled heat exchangers are used extensively throughout the oil and gas industry, from upstream production to refineries and petrochemical plants, under high pressure and high temperature conditions, as well as corrosive fluids and environments.

An evaporative condenser is a condenser integrated into a cooling tower which rejects the latent heat of condensation of refrigerant (Ammonia/Freon) through a coil to the surroundings by means of evaporation.Water sprayed onto the coil exchanges heat with the refrigerant. A small quantity of water is evaporated into the air thereby cooling the remaining water cascading to the basin at the bottom. Post evaporation the saturated air passes through the drift eliminators and then forced out using a fan.

Construction And Working Of Evaporative Condenser :

In evaporative condensers, both air and water are used to extract heat from the condensing refrigerant. Figure shows the schematic of an evaporative condenser. Evaporative condensers combine the features of a cooling tower and water-cooled condenser in a single unit. In these condensers,  the water is sprayed from top part on a bank of tubes carrying the refrigerant and air is induced upwards. There is a thin water film around the condenser tubes from which evaporative cooling takes place. The heat transfer coefficient for evaporative cooling is very large. Hence, the refrigeration system can be operated at low condensing temperatures (about 11 to 13 K above the wet bulb temperature of air). The water spray counter current to the airflow acts as cooling tower. The role of air is primarily to increase the rate of evaporation of water. The required air flow rates are in the range of 350 to 500 m3/h per TR of refrigeration capacity.
