IKAT AND KALAMKARI KURTIS LOCALLY WOVEN IN TELANGANA AND ANDHRAPRADESH.Kalamkari originated in the modern-day states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana several hundred years ago. It was first used to portray scenes from sacred texts such as the Mahabharata, Ramayana and Bhagavatam.Kalamkari is a type of hand-painted cotton textile produced in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. In ikat the resist is formed by binding individual yarns or bundles of yarns with a tight wrapping applied in the desired pattern.Ikat fabric can be made with any textile fiber that takes well to dye. Common traditional ikat materials include silk and wool, but you can also dye rayon, polyester, and a variety of other synthetic fibers the same way.
