The sludge scrapers for clarifiers with internal diameters of 16, 18, 24, 28, 30, 40, 50, 54 m, and non standard diameters can be manufactured using:

  • The sludge scraper is an integral piece of equipment and technological accessory. The main equipment include the bridge, platform, flights with scrapers and the driven trolley.

 

Scrapers are placed on the flights which are suspended from the rotary platform by means of poles and rods. The scrapers’ length and shape are changed according to their proximity to the central pit. The scrapers are provided with rubber aprons that improve their scraping ability.

 

The central bearing is installed as a rotational bearing assembly. The bridge provides access to the centre of the sludge scraper. The driving trolley is located on the external part of the bridge. It is equipped a variable speed drive to change rotation and speed. As an option, a driving trolley is offered in all wheel drive for reliable operation in winter conditions.

 

The other end of the bridge is supported by the platform and the central shaft. Metal or plastic flooring, secured with hand rails, is mounted on the bridge.

 

A variety of accessories can be supplied in addition to the sludge scraper.

Operating Principle

The sludge scraping complex operates in continuous mode. The scraper flights are actuated by the drive trolley. The scraper flights rotate 1 – 3.5 times per hour, depending on clarifier’s diameter. Orientated at an angle, the scrapers move the sludge to the pit in the clarifier’s center, where the sludge is directed to further dewatering. The sludge scraper sis supplied with a frequency inverter which provides smooth starting and allows the operator to adjust the scraper’s rotation and speed.

Screens are manufactured from stainless steel AISI 304 or AISI 316 on customer demand. The movable and endless filtering mesh consists of hooks and is installed on the screen frame. Filtering mesh openings are 5mm wide by default, but can be adjusted on customer demand. The rectangular frame consists of two longitudinal boards connected by crossbeams. The filtering mesh moves along polymer guides installed on the longitudinal boards of the screen, and is driven by a shaft with drive sprockets located on the top part of the screen.

 

The shaft is driven by a geared motor. Filtering mesh tension can be adjusted. Wash water nozzles and a drum with radially located brushes are placed on the driven shaft of the geared motor. This motor is installed on top of the screen frame and is designated for the filtering mesh hooks cleaning.

 

Operating Principle

  • The hook type screen retains and removes solids of which the size exceeds that of the filtering mesh openings from the wastewater. Collected solids are moved in an upward direction to the discharge zone by means of the hooks. Here it is discharged into the transporter or waste bin. After the waste is discharged, cleaning of the filtering mesh is performed by wash water from the nozzles, followed by the revolving brushes. In addition, the previous hook line cleans the next hook line at the moment of its overturn.
  • The screen operation periodicity depends on the equipment automation scheme.
  • Due to the special design of the filtering mesh, a contamination layer is generated onto the working surface and creates an additional filtering effect which allows catchment of particles with sizes less than 5 mm.

 

Automation

  • Screen automation can be done according to different parameters: Wastewater level difference upstream and downstream of the screen.
  • Any customized program.
  • Alarm systems of the normal operation indication, the emergency stops, the wastewater top level in the channel and others are provided. It is possible to transfer equipment status data to a higher level automated process control system depending on the client’s requirements.
  • The screen is supplied with safety device to avoid damage to any screen components.

 

The safety device stops the screen operation when bulky waste ingress the filtering mesh, or when any other object blocks free plate movement. Light and sound alarms turn on simultaneously when the safety device is active. The screens, together with a conveyor, compacting press and slide gates, are included in a high-performance complex for mechanical wastewater treatment.

 

Equipping the control system with programmable modules makes it possible to integrate complex sub systems into one system with a common control center and remote dispatching.

The Advanced Activated Sludge Process or three-stage A2O process consists of a Modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) process for nitrogen removal, with an anaerobic zone in front for phosphorus removal .The process is called A2O since it consists of anaerobic/anoxic/oxic (aerobic) tanks in series. The RAS is recycled to the anaerobic zone. The anaerobic zone is followed by an anoxic zone for nitrogen removal through de-nitrification. IR is recycled from the aerobic zone to the anoxic zone at a rate of 100 to 400 percent of influent. Nitrogen removal is limited by the IR flow and this is achieved by means of IR gates contrary to the heavy duty pumps which consumes high amount of power . This is a relatively simple process to operate. The process has a small footprint.

Operating Principle

The thickener operates in continuous mode.

  • The sludge / flocculent mixture is fed to the moving top sieve belt and distributed all over its operating length. In the movement, the sludge layer is constantly mixed by the ripper system for water outflow improvement. The water drains via gravity feed. The dewatered filter cake is then removed from the belt by polymeric scrapers into the receiving bin. Operating Principle

The operation cycle with the filter plates clamping. The inner voids of plates are joined in the combined chamber space. When reaching a certain pressure value (which ensures the chamber space seal), the external pump feeds slurry into the filter press. This slurry gradually fills the filter press and due to the feed pump pressure , the liquid phase passes through the filter cloth and flows out of the filter press via the internal canal system. The cloth collects a layer of cake, with the thickness depending on the quality of the slurry supplied. This process takes place until the void is completely filled with the cake after which the slurry feed stops.

 

After filtering the cake in the chamber, it can be further processed to obtain additional effects with washing and drying. During washing the washing fluid is fed into the filter press. This expels the main filtrate from the cake. Washing can be done in several stages along with separation of the wash filtrate by concentration and discharging of the weakest portions for the first stages of the next cycle. Also, washing can be performed with several fluids. Washing is achieved by supplying washing liquids into discharge line from one side of the filter press. This provides conditions for uniform washing of the whole cake area. Washing is very effective in applications that require the maximum phase separation. Multilevel washing achieves good results with the lowest cost in washing fluid.

 

During the drying process, compressed air passes through the cake in the press, to decrease the cake humidity. As with the washing liquid, air is supplied into the filtrate discharging line from one side of the filter press to ensure uniform drying. Drying is done to reduce the moisture content in the cake for reduction of subsequent heat treatment costs, ensuring the transportation conditions of dried cake or to achieve maximum phase separation in cases when cake washing is impossible.

 

After filtering and processing, washed and dried cake is discharged from the filter press – the clamping plate is moved to the end position, followed by gaps appearing between the filter plates with the width greater than the cake thickness. Pressed by their own weight, cake fall out through the openings into the receiving bunker or on the removal device.

 

Automation

Eurotek filter presses are equipped with a variety of control and measurement instrumentation and a control system with an industrial controller. When the press is in operation, the control system manages the mechanical movements of different components, process operations and other processes related to them.

 

The automation level of Eurotek filter press is selected depending on the filter press type and size, its purpose, operating frequenc. It can be changed from completely mechanical to fully automated systems.

The Disc Cloth Filter is made up of a drum or alternatively of filter discs mounted on a central hollow shaft. The filtration is done by gravity with an idle machine and uses the level difference between the input and output of the machine. The discs (or the drum) run completely immersed in the water to be treated.

 

During the filtration phase, the solids are held back by the special polstoff cloth. The minimum water level in the tank containing the filter is controlled by a weir placed on the side of the clean water outlet. With the increase of deposit of solids on the cloth, the hydraulic resistance increases in passing and therefore the difference between the levels of entry and exit.

 

When a difference of 15 ÷ 20 cm between these levels is reached, it automatically activates the cleaning process of the cloth.

 

To clean the cloth which is necessary to restore its filtering capacity, the discs (or drum) are rotated slowly. The solids are removed as a result of the backwash passage through the cloth, the water already filtered by a suction pump; this pump is connected to special suction nozzles, which by adhering to the walls of each disc or drum causes the free fiber of the cloth filter to stretch facilitating the release of the sludge particles retained therein.

 

The contact of the suction nozzle with the cloth filter generates the recompression of the free fibers and the consequent formation of an even filtration panel.

 

The cloth filter of the drum or disc filters is made of polstoff free fibers (fiber length from 10 to 12 mm and a diameter of 13 to 27 µ fastened to a large weave fabric that serves as support). The type of filtration obtained is comparable to the deep filtration of sand filters and not the surface filtration of the monofilament cloth filters.

Operating Principle

Wastewater is fed at the inlet zone of the conical tank and swirls along tank walls by means of the mixing device rotation. Grit slips along the walls of the conical tank and reaches the grit washing unit. Clarified wastewater is directed to the outlet branch for subsequent treatment stages. Grit is washed by pressure water in the grit washing unit. Grit is agitated by the mixer to improve the grit washing process. Washing water is drained to the subsequent treatment stages while the grit is collected at the tank’s bottom. From here it is removed to the discharge zone by the screw conveyor. The grit is discharged into the storage container or onto the transporter.
