What is Calcined Petroleum Coke? Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) is obtained by calcining Raw Petroleum Coke (RPC) at temperatures as high as 1400oC. RPC is a by-product of the oil refining process and is derived from the distillation of petroleum crude in delayed cokers.  CPC  is used in the Aluminum, Graphite Electrode, Steel, Titanium Dioxide and other carbon consuming industries.  Calcined Petroleum Coke  is also known as Recarburiser / Laddle additive /  Carbon raiser . The Manufacturing Process Raw Petroleum Coke received from the refinery is fed into a rotary kiln. The coke gradually moves towards the lower end of the kiln and during its movement down the kiln all moisture and volatile matters present in the RPC are driven off. It is a self sustaining process with the burning of hydrocarbons present in the RPC providing for the heat required for calcination. The product received at the end of the process is a highly electrically conductive carbon called Calcined Petroleum Coke.

What is Carbon Electrode Paste? Carbon Electrode Paste is a self-baking electrode used in submerged arc furnaces for delivering power to the charge mix. Electrode Paste is added to the top of the electrode column in either cylindrical or briquette form. As the paste moves down the electrode column the temperature increase causes the paste to melt and subsequently bake forming a block of electrically conductive carbon. Electrode Paste is essentially a mix of Electrically Calcined Anthracite (ECA) or Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC) with Coal Tar Pitch. The Manufacturing Process CPC or ECA is screened to different fractions and stored in hoppers. The various fractions are then weighed using a batching system and taken in a bin. The composition of fractions is taken according to the desired Electrode Paste properties. The resulting aggregate is preheated in a mixer to temperatures up to 180oC and Coal Tar Pitch at 200oC is then added and mixed. The quantity of Coal Tar Pitch added varies depending on desired plasticity. Coal Tar Pitch which is used as a binder in the product is manufactured in-house, using Crude Coal Tar from different sources so as to get the precise Electrode Paste quality.

What is Carbon Tamping Paste? Carbon Tamping Paste(CTP) or Ramming Paste is used in the lining of the submerged arc furnace. It is softened by heating and then applied over the refractory lining of the SAF. Good quality Tamping Paste is essential for the long life of the furnace lining. The Manufacturing Process The manufacturing process for Tamping Paste is the same as for Carbon Electrode Paste, the only difference being the fraction sizes of ECA/CPC which are different for Tamping Paste and the binder content is lower.
