Fluke LED Stroboscope

Fluke 820-2 LED Stroboscope
Investigate and observe potential mechanism failure with confidence

Identifying the running speed of rotating equipment can be difficult, but the Fluke 820-2 LED Stroboscope simplifies the process allowing you to perform stop motion diagnostics without actually stopping, or making contact, with the machine you are working on. Whether you are trying to diagnose parasitic oscillations, slippage, or unwanted distortions, the 820-2 LED Stroboscope is the ideal frontline troubleshooting, process or product research and development tool.

In other applications with higher rpm or larger rotating objects with high surface speeds, an adjustable flash duration is needed. In high speed applications, objects may move during the brief period of a single flash, resulting in a blurred image. By decreasing flash duration, objects have less time to move and the image will appear sharper.

FEATURES
  • High-intensity 7-LED array 4, 800 Lux @ 6, 000 FPM/30cm
  • High efficiency LED solid-state light source with uniform flash characteristics allows for higher flash rates 30-300, 000 FPM (flashes per minute)
  • Digital pulse width modulation for exceptionally sharp images at high speeds
  • Rugged, durable design utilizes solid-state LEDs with no filaments, gases, hollow cavities, or glass (1 meter drop)
  • Quartz-accuracy control system provides high accuracy 0.02% (+/- 1 digit)
  • Multi-line LCD display
  • Check the rotating speed of machinery without physical contact or need for reflective tape
  • Advance or retard flash timing for viewing gear teeth, cutting surfaces, repeats, or drifting equipment
  • Simple push button operation with 2x and 2 buttons for easy adjustment Adjustable flash duration
Common applications for the 820-2

The Fluke 820-2 LED Stroboscope is more than just a tool to measure rotational speed of machinery without physical contact. It is also an excellent diagnostic tool for a wide variety of applications:

  • Belt driven machines - HVAC fans, pumps
  • Roller bearings, shafts, gear teeth or other machine components
  • Clutches and cogwheels
  • Foundations - resonance vibrations
  • Cable or piping wear or damage
  • Mixing and dosage processes
Use the 820-2 for:
  • Turbines that vary in speed and change speed frequently
  • Variable Frequency Drive motors that vary in speed, but do not change frequently
  • Find belt rotation speed and look for belt slippage
  • Find machine element components fan blades, pump vanes, compressor screws, and gear teeth
  • RPM measurement and frequency investigation Slip measurement

In addition, the LED stroboscope can be used as a strobe tachometer to measure speed instead of using a laser tachometer. In order to use the stroboscope, the component under measure must be visible, and have an identifying mark that can be used as a point of reference. A strobe tachometer is a useful tool because you can't always get access to the machine shaft to stick a piece of reflective tape to use a laser tachometer or make contact with the moving shaft to use a contact tachometer - using a stroboscope you can "stop" the shaft down to 30 RPM (FPM).

What is Crest Factor+?

Crest Factor+ is a new proprietary algorithm (or technology) that takes the confusion out of bearing assessment. The original Crest Factor is used by vibration analysts to identify bearing faults. It is defined as the ratio of the peak value/RMS value of a time domain vibration signal.

A key limitation of the original Crest Factor algorithm is that it does not increase linearly as the bearing degrades, making it very difficult to determine the severity of mechanical issues. In fact, the Crest Factor can actually decrease as a bearing nears catastrophic failure due to large RMS values.

In order to overcome this limitation, Fluke uses a proprietary algorithm known as Crest Factor+ (CF+). CF+ values range from 1 to 16. As the bearing condition worsens, the CF+ value increases, ensuring the user is easily able to recognize the severity of the problem. To make things even simpler, Fluke has also included a four-level severity scale that identifies the bearing health as Good, Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory or Unacceptable.

Fluke Earth Ground Clamp Meter

Earth Ground loop resistance measurements for commercial, industrial, and utility applications

The clamp-on ground testing technique used by the Fluke 1630 simplifies ground loop testing and enables non-intrusive leakage current measurement. The compact and rugged design makes the Fluke 1630 easy to use in small places and harsh environments, while the display hold and the continuity testing with an audible alarm function ensures convenience in use. The novel technique means that earth ground loop testing and continuity testing can be completed without breaking the circuit.

Stakeless testing system

The Fluke 1630 uses the Stakeless testing method, which eliminates the need to disconnect parallel ground rods and find suitable locations for placing auxiliary ground stakes. This saves time and enables users such as industrial and utility electricians, and field service electricians and contractors, to perform earth ground loop tests in locations where it is not possible to use other techniques, including inside buildings or on power pylons. With the Stakeless testing method, earth ground stakes are no longer necessary. The Fluke 1630 Earth Ground Clamp is placed around the earth ground rod or the connecting cable. A known voltage is induced by one half of the clamp and the current is measured by the other half. The tester automatically determines the ground loop resistance at this grounding connection.

FEATURES
  • A wide ground loop resistance range, from 0.025 to1500 , to satisfy all requirements
  • Large jaw opening of 35 mm (1.38 in) for tests on ground conductors and/or equipotential bus bars
  • Measurement of ground leakage current, from 0.2 mA to 1000 mA, without needing to disconnect - ideal for system troubleshooting
  • Wide ac current measurement range from 0.2 A to 30 A allows one instrument for multiple applications
  • User-defined HI / LO Alarm limits, for rapid measurement evaluation
  • Handy display hold button for capturing readings in hard-to-reach places
