Catla catla (syn. Cyprinus catla; Gibelion catla), also known as Indian carp, is the only member of the genus Catla, of the carp family Cyprinidae. Frozen Catla Fish is a fish with a large protruding lower jaw. It is commonly found in rivers and lakes in northern India, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Pakistan. In India Frozen Catla Fish is commonly known as the Bhakur. In Assam it is known as Bhakua or Bahu or Dhekera. Frozen Catla Fish reaches a maximum length of 1.83 m (6.0 ft) and a weight of about 110 kg (240 lb).

Native to streams and rivers in India, Frozen Mrigal Fish is the only surviving wild population in the Cauvery River, leading to its IUCN rating as Vulnerable. Frozen Mrigal Fish is widely aqua-farmed and introduced populations exist outside its native range. Frozen Mrigal Fish reaches a maximum length of 1 m (3.3 ft).
