A rose is a woody perennial of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae. There are over 100 species. They form a group of erect shrubs, and climbing or trailing plants, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers are large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and fragrance. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach 7 meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses.

The majority of ornamental roses are hybrids that were bred for their flowers. A few, mostly species roses are grown for attractive or scented foliage (such as Rosa glauca and Rosa rubiginosa), ornamental thorns (such as Rosa sericea) or for their showy fruit (such as Rosa moyesii).Ornamental roses have been cultivated for millennia, with the earliest known cultivation known to date from at least 500 BC in Mediterranean countries, Persia, and China. Many thousands of rose hybrids and cultivars have been bred and selected for garden use as flowering plants. Most are double-flowered with many or all of the stamens having mutated into additional petals.

Gladiolus can be grown in a wide range of climate from hills to plains in India, but temperature plays a very important role in germination, growth and development of the crop. The optimum temperature for growing gladiolus is 19-23 degree centigrade during the daytime and 15-18 degree centigrade in the night

The field should be prepared well to the depth of 15-20 cm. It is cultivated in northern plains. After the rainy season 4-5 ploughings are desirable. Before planting the field should be irrigated and then two ploughings are sufficient. In pots, sandy loam soil should be used for filling up.

September to November is the best time for the planting of gladiolus in northern plains. In India wherever conditions are like in Delhi, it is planted around the year. The planting distance between rows should be 30-40 cm while the bulbs should be spaced about 10-20 cm apart and 10-15 cm deep in the soil.

Commonly called tuberose, Polianthes tuberosa is a perennial species of plant grown for its fragrant, creamy white flowers. One double-flowered cultivar called "The Pearl" has been developed for its larger, longer-lasting flowers and smaller size, which tops out at 2.5 feet compared to the 3-foot-tall single-flowered variety. Gardeners in Sunset's Climate Zones 7 to 9 and 14 to 24 can easily grow the double-flowered tuberose cultivar if the plants are provided with four months of warm, frost-free weather and fertile soil. However, in zones 7 to 9, it is best to lift the rhizomes in autumn and overwinter them indoors to avoid potential frost damage.

Delightfully, sweet-scented flowers make 'The Pearl' one of our favorite plants. The Fragrant Double Tuberose has unique pink and green buds that open into double white flowers during the summer. THE MOONBEAM flower is a wild plant cultivated in Indian gardens for its ornate value. Known as `Chandni' in Hindi, Moonbeam or Wax Flower in English, `Nandiyavattai' in Tamil and `Nandivardhana' in Telugu, the glossy bright green leaves and white, waxy flowers of the plant are the main draw.

Botanically, it is known as Ervatamia coronaria (Tabernaemontana coronaria) and belongs to the Apocynaceae family.

The plant reaches a height of about two metres. It blooms throughout the year; flowers are freely produced and are sweetly-scented. They have a short tube and salver shaped corolla of five `kukri'-shaped lobes with fringed edges. Petal lobes are arranged in an overlapping manner in the bud. Fragrance of the flowers increases in the night.

In traditional medicines too, the plant finds a place. The flowers are crushed and placed on the eyes to get relief from eye-inflammation. A vermicide is extracted from the roots and delightful incense from the wood. A new species with variegated creamy yellow and light green leaves has been developed. Compared to the original plant the new arrival is less colourful, although it produces flowers in plenty.
