A335 is often called chrome moly pipe because of the chemical makeup of Molybdenum (Mo) and Chromium (Cr). Molybdenum increases the strength of steel as well as the elastic limit, resistance to wear, impact qualities, and hardenability. Moly increases the resistance to softening, restrains grain growth and makes chromium steel less susceptible to embrittlement. Moly is the most effective single additive that increases high temperature creep strength. It also enhances the corrosion resistance of steel, and inhibits pitting. Chromium (or chrome) is the essential constituent of stainless steel. Any steel with 12% or more Chrome is considered stainless. Chrome is virtually irreplaceable in resisting oxidation at elevated temperatures. Chrome raises the tensile, yield, and hardness at room temperatures. The composition chrome moly alloy steel pipe make it ideal for use in power plants, refineries, petro chemical plants, and oil field services where fluids and gases are transported at extremely high temperatures and pressures.
Chromium-Molybdenum Alloy Steel or Chrome-Moly, CrMo is an alloy steel intended for high temperature and high pressure services. Chrome-Moly is used in the power generation industry and the petro-chemical industry because of its tensile strength, corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength.

A53 pipe comes in three types and two grades, A53 Type F, which is longitudinally furnace butt welded or continuous welded (Grade A only), A53 Type E, which is longitudinally electric resistance welded (Grades A and B), and A53 Type S, which is seamless pipe, produced by hot working, and possibly cold finishing, the steel (Grades A and B). ASTM A53 pipe is sized according to the nominal pipe size (NPS) system. It is commonly available with national pipe thread ends or with plain cut ends. It can be used for steam, water, and air conveyance. It is also weldable and can be used in structural applications, although ASTM A500 tube, which is available in the same NPS sizes, is sometime preferred.

NACE pipe can be supplied in two specifications that provide guidance on reducing the risk of in-service cracking, one of these also being an ISO standard. The major difference between these two primary specifications is the definition the environmental and service conditions for sour service.
The first standard, ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, Petroleum and natural gas industries Materials for use in H2S-containing environments in oil and gas production, is intended for offshore.
Applications and NACE MR0103, Materials Resistant to sulphide stress cracking in corrosive petroleum refining environments, for onshore process plant. Both MR0175 and MR0103 have virtually identical requirements for specifying parent metal properties of carbon steels for sour service; the principal additional requirement being a maximum hardness. All steels that have been cold-worked must be stress relief heat treated to ensure the hardness is less than 22HRC (Rockwell hardness, equivalent to 248Hv or 235HB). Carbon steels other than P1 can be used provided that their hardness is also less than 22HRC.
HIC test to evaluate the resistance of pipeline and pressure vessel plate steels to Hydrogen Inducted Cracking caused by hydrogen absorption from aqueous sulfide corrosion. An unstressed test specimen is exposed to a solution at ambient temperature and pressure and after a specified time, the test specimen is removed and evaluated.
Sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSC) is a form of hydrogen embrittlement cracking which occurs when a susceptible material is exposed to a corrosive environment containing water and H2S at a critical level of applied or residual tensile stress. Deep wells containing H2S necessitates drill strings that combine high strength and Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC) resistance. Conventional API 5D drill pipe and API Spec7 tool joints do not meet these requirements. This paper is aimed at evaluating the performances of new 95 ksi grade and new 105 ksi grade drill pipes for sour service. Mechanical properties and SSC resistance have been investigated on both pipes, tools and weld areas. Optimized chemical composition, manufacturing process and heat treatment are pointed out. A335 is often called chrome moly pipe because of the chemical makeup of Molybdenum (Mo) and Chromium (Cr). Molybdenum increases the strength of steel as well as the elastic limit, resistance to wear, impact qualities, and hardenability. Moly increases the resistance to softening, restrains grain growth and makes chromium steel less susceptible to embrittlement. Moly is the most effective single additive that increases high temperature creep strength. It also enhances the corrosion resistance of steel, and inhibits pitting. Chromium (or chrome) is the essential constituent of stainless steel. Any steel with 12% or more Chrome is considered stainless. Chrome is virtually irreplaceable in resisting oxidation at elevated temperatures. Chrome raises the tensile, yield, and hardness at room temperatures. The composition chrome moly alloy steel pipe make it ideal for use in power plants, refineries, petro chemical plants, and oil field services where fluids and gases are transported at extremely high temperatures and pressures.
Chromium-Molybdenum Alloy Steel or Chrome-Moly, CrMo is an alloy steel intended for high temperature and high pressure services. Chrome-Moly is used in the power generation industry and the petro-chemical industry because of its tensile strength, corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength.

A53 pipe comes in three types and two grades, A53 Type F, which is longitudinally furnace butt welded or continuous welded (Grade A only), A53 Type E, which is longitudinally electric resistance welded (Grades A and B), and A53 Type S, which is seamless pipe, produced by hot working, and possibly cold finishing, the steel (Grades A and B). ASTM A53 pipe is sized according to the nominal pipe size (NPS) system. It is commonly available with national pipe thread ends or with plain cut ends. It can be used for steam, water, and air conveyance. Applications and NACE MR0103, Materials Resistant to sulphide stress cracking in corrosive petroleum refining environments, for onshore process plant. The latter specification refers to a recommended practice document for controlling welding activities to ensure a low and acceptable weldment hardness;NACE SP0472, Methods and controls to prevent in-service environmental cracking of carbon steel weldments in corrosive petroleum refining environments.
Both MR0175 and MR0103 have virtually identical requirements for specifying parent metal properties of carbon steels for sour service; the principal additional requirement being a maximum hardness. All steels that have been cold-worked must be stress relief heat treated to ensure the hardness is less than 22HRC (Rockwell hardness, equivalent to 248Hv or 235HB). Carbon steels other than P1 can be used provided that their hardness is also less than 22HRC.
HIC test to evaluate the resistance of pipeline and pressure vessel plate steels to Hydrogen Inducted Cracking caused by hydrogen absorption from aqueous sulfide corrosion. An unstressed test specimen is exposed to a solution at ambient temperature and pressure and after a specified time, the test specimen is removed and evaluated.
Sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSC) is a form of hydrogen embrittlement cracking which occurs when a susceptible material is exposed to a corrosive environment containing water and H2S at a critical level of applied or residual tensile stress. Deep wells containing H2S necessitates drill strings that combine high strength and Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC) resistance. Conventional API 5D drill pipe and API Spec7 tool joints do not meet these requirements. This paper is aimed at evaluating the performances of new 95 ksi grade and new 105 ksi grade drill pipes for sour service. Mechanical properties and SSC resistance have been investigated on both pipes, tools and weld areas. Optimized chemical composition, manufacturing process and heat treatment are pointed out.
