Batik art is very ancient art of making paintings using Wax. The technique of batik is a demanding one because the final design must be conceived before the picture is begun. The batik artist works intimately with color; if he wishes parts of his design to be light blue, for example, all these parts must be waxed at the same time before any subsequent dyeing. He cannot seperate one part of his design and complete it before moving on to the others as an artist in oils or watercolor may; he must create his design in stages, each of which encompasses the whole picture.
The selection of waxes is important to the quality of the finished batik. Paraffin and beeswax are the two waxes most commonly used in batik and are usually combined in different proportions.

It is the centre point wherein all experience is gathered in total concentration. The red 'kumkum' between the eyebrows is said to retain energy in the human body and control the various levels of concentration. It is also the central point of the base of the creation itself symbolizing auspiciousness and good fortune. Also loosely known as 'tika', tilak', body dot and 'kumkum', Bindis comes in various shaped and sizes with glue on one side to stick it on forehead.

Paper machie products are made of pounded disintegrated paper. The procedure involves soaking paper in water for sometime, mixed with an adhesive mixture and pounded together. This mixture is then shaped over different moulds and allowed to set. These are varnished and painted when absolutely dry. Paper that has been pounded to pulp has an extremely smooth finish while less pounded paper is less smooth. These products vary in design and color combinations and gold is mostly used to highlight certain motifs. Lastly, varnish is applied to the finished product for smoothness and to impart high gloss. The favorite patterns found in papier machie are sparkling running streams, shikaras, lotuses blooming in Dal lake, green fields contrasting with white snow capped mountains, tiny songbirds perch & nest and other colorful floral designs.

A Japa mala or mala is a set of beads commonly used by Hindus and Buddhists to chant mantras or repeating names of deities. This process of chanting mantras or deities name is called as japa. Malas are made mostly of 108 beads. The practice of chanting a mantra is used as a form of meditation. Sitting in a comfortable position, with the eyes closed, the mantra is repeated silently or aloud. The mind is focused on the mantra, the thoughts are let go of and the breath is slow and deep. To empower the Japa Mala and the mantra used, japa (mantra meditation) should be practiced each day for 40 continuous days. When japa mala becomes empowered it can be worn or lightly placed on oneself or others to transmit the energy of the mantra as well as the energetic qualities of the mala. When you use a new mantra with japa mala, this energy becomes replaced, so it is recommended to use a new japa mala with each mantra if possible. When not in use, store your Japa Mala in a special, clean and preferably sacred space. The best place to store a mala is on a personal alter or statue of a deity. |

Cotton wrapped around a bamboo stick forms the brush. The colours applied are prepared by the artists. Black colour is obtained by mixing soot with cow dung; yellow from turmeric or pollen or lime and the milk of banyan leaves; blue from indigo; red from the kusam flower juice or red sandalwood; green from the leaves of the wood apple tree; white from rice powder; orange from palasha flowers.
The colours are applied flat with no shading. There is normally a double line drawn for the outlines, with the gap between the lines filled by cross or straight tiny lines. In the linear painting, no colours are applied. Only the outlines are drawn.
