Hyperpigmentation is any flat, darkened patches which are light brown to black in colour, and can vary in size and shape. It occurs mainly due to over-production of melanin. Melasma is one of the commomest hyperpigmentory condition is often referred to as the mask of pregnancy as most of the females start getting it post delivery. It is a skin condition characterised by persistent redness on the face, specifically convex areas such as cheeks and nose. Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a form of scarring on the skin initially red in colour and gradually turning white. Over time they may diminish, but will not disappear completely. Stretch marks appear due to the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth or rapid weight changes.
