The mill consists of several passes through which the sheet is gradually formed, each pass bending the steel sheet more and changing the radii on each pass. This is done until the two ends of the steel are pressed together and then welded inline.

Hot-rolled sections are predominantly used for structural purposes while tubes rolled from cold-rolled steel have better bending ability and give a better aesthetic appearance after being powder coated.
