The tests were developed with an estimated product life of five years based on a continuous single-shift usage.
BIFMA X6.4 has 17 tests and covers four styles of seating units that apply to both single and multiple seating configurations:
Style A: with arm(s) and with backrest
Style B: with arm(s) and without backrest
Style C: without arms and with backrest
Style D: without arms and without backrest
Occasional-use seating is normally used in indoor common/shared spaces such as waiting, reception, visitor seating in patient rooms*, restaurant/dining/cafeteria** settings and other gathering areas. Large Occupant Office Chairs
CDG offers BIFMA X5.11 testing as part of its Office Furniture Testing services. ANSI/ BIFMA X5.11 General Purpose Large Occupant Office Chairs tests was released on January 5, 2015. This standard is for individuals having a corporal mass greater than 253 lbs. and up to 400 lbs. which equates to the 99, 5th percentile male in the US. Levels of BIFA certification
LEVEL certification applicants can pursue credits in three categories: Environmental Impacts, Health and Wellness Impacts, and Social Impacts. CDG offers BIFMA X5.6 testing as part of its Office Furniture Testing services. ANSI/BIFMA X5.6 Panel Systems Tests was released in January 2016. This standard provides a level plain field for evaluating the safety, durability and mechanical resistance of panel systems used in office environments. This standard specifies acceptance levels to help ensure reasonable safety and performance of panel systems with an estimated product life of ten years based on a single shift usage.
Desk products should be tested to Bifma X5.5, storage products should be tested to Bifma X5.9 and seating products should be tested to Bifma X5.1 and Bifma X5.4. If your panel system shares components such as doors and drawers and that these products were tested to any of these Bifma standards, you might be able to use these tests and avoid having to redo them again. BIFMA X5.5 Test for Desks Products Micom Laboratories CDG offers BIFMA X5.5 testing as part of its Office Furniture Testing services. ANSI/BIFMA X5.5-2014 Desk/Table Products Tests was released in February 2014 and replaces the 2008 standard edition. BIFMA x5.5 covers freestanding furniture articles including but not limited to, single and double pedestal desks, extended desk units, credenzas, and tables. Also included are items that are attached to, placed on or supported by the desk/table unit such as overhead storage units. Accessory items are not included in this standard. On the other hand, flip top tables, monitor arms and benching systems are now covered by this new edition. Storage cabinets should be tested to Bifma X5.9, office seating to Bifma X5.1, lounge seating to Bifma X5.4 and panel systems to Bifma X5.6.

Domestic and non-domestic tables testing
All tables used for domestic purposes and non-domestic purposes including those with glass in their construction testing table shall comply minimum requirements for the safety, strength and durability requirements. If the domestic table is equipped with storage features it shall be tested according to other existing EN standards.

Lounge & Public Seating
BIFMA X5.4 - Lounge and Public Seating Testing CDG offers BIFMA X5.4 testing as part of its Office Furniture Testing services. ANSI/ BIFMA X5.4 Public and Lounge Seating was initially released in 1980 and since then went through multiple editions. The current edition was published in 2020. This standard is for lounge seating products having single or multiple seating positions, with or without pedestal bases. BIFMA X5.4 is for chairs designed for individuals with a corporal mass of up to 275 lbs. which represents the 95th percentile male. The tests were developed with an estimated product life of ten years based on a continuous single-shift usage. Regular office chairs should be tested to BIFMA X5.1. We also offer BIFMA X6.1, BIFMA X6.4, BIFMA HCF 8.1 testing for seating products.

Usually, within a chair family, manufacturers will offer a single seating unit and also multiple-seating units. Not all sizes need to be tested for all tests. BIFMA X5.1 Furniture Testing - Office chairs Micom offers BIFMA X5.1 testing as part of its Office Furniture Testing services. ANSI/ BIFMA X5.1 General Purpose Office Chairs tests was released in February 2017 and replaces the 2011 standard edition.
This standard provides a common basis for manufacturers, specifiers, and users to evaluate the safety, durability, and structural adequacy of general-purpose office chairs. These office chairs are normally used in office environments and may include chair styles usually described as executive, task/secretarial, guest chairs, nesting folding chairs, armchairs with tablet, and stools.
BIFMA X 5.1 now has 20 tests and covers office chairs offering different features. Not all tests need to be done on all chairs. There are three chair categories referred in the standard as chair types. These types are as follows:

What Is the Process for Having Your Product Lines Tested?
Because of our deep understanding of the Government procurement requirements, we can simplify things and help you through the testing process. The best way to proceed is to send us your price list for the product line you want to qualify for. Why your price list? Because it contains your product offering, the product codes and basically all we need to prepare an optimized test plan for your product offering. Upon our initial review of your price list, we will discuss with you what units are to be qualified. For example, you might want your desks to be tested, but not your conference tables, or vice-versa. We will then ask you a few questions on how your units are built. A test plan is then prepared and submitted. Most of the time this process can be completed within a day. As an accredited BIFMA testing lab, we make it our business to keep things simple and easy to manage for you.
Once testing has begun, on large projects, you will receive a weekly update. If any failure occurs, you will be notified by phone and/or email on the same day. Pictures of the failures, when appropriate, will be sent at no extra charge. Resolution of the failure can then proceed.
Once testing has been completed, test reports are generated electronically in PDF format. You will then have the choice of recuperating your test samples or having us dispose of them.
This completes our test project with you.
