the cair 500 ip series transducers are ideally used to convert current or voltage input signal to a linearly proportional pneumatic output pressure. This versatile instrument is rugged and reliable force balance transducers for use in both process control and industrial applications, for standard process control applications which typically utilize 3 to 15 psig output and industrial & high pressure application which typically utilize pressure output up to 120 psig. Aira 500 ip series transducers combines low cost, high accuracy and minimum air consumption with field proven technology. Versatile design features and rugged, compact housing with a choice of cmri and atex* approved versions for explosion proof or intrinsically safe operation when used with a suitable barrier.

principle of operation:

the cair 500 ip series transducer is a balance device in which, when electrical current is passed through the coil of transducer, a magnetic field is created which acts on the magnet assembly, casuing the anvil & diaphragm to move away from or forward the nozzle (flapper nozzle) depending on the direction of current flow. Motion at the nozzle assembly is proportional to the amount of current passing through the coil.

the flapper/anvi move away from or forward towards the nozzle creates back pressure which acts as pilot pressure to an integral booster relay. When in put electrical current increases (or decreases for reverse acting) causes proportional output pressure increases. Zero and span are calibrated by turning easily accessible adjusting screw on the front face of the unit. The zero adjusting screw causes the nozz e to move relative to the flapper / anvil. The span adjusting screw is a potentiometer that limits the current through the coil. A thermistor circuit in series with the coil provides temperature compensation.

split ranging:

if split ranging id required the 4-20 ma input and 3-15 psig output version (cair ip-501) can be recalibrated to provide 3-9 psig or 9-15 psig output.

mounting:

the cair 500ip series transducers can be pipe, panel or bracket mounted in any position. Position other than vertical will require recalibration of the zero and span adjustment. Transducers should be mounted in a vibration-free area. field reversible: all cair 500ip series transducers are calibrated at the factory for direct acting operation but may be used in reverse acting mode by reversing the polarity of signal leads and recalibrating. When calibrated for reverse acting applications it provide a minimum of their full rated output pressure (i.e. 3 psig) upon inputsignal failure.

The guillotine damper, or slide gate damper as it is sometimes called, has the main function of isolation of equipment to permit inspection, maintenance, or repair in addition to process isolation. Occasionally, guillotine dampers are specified for bypass ducts, if operation requirements allow enough time for the slow-moving blade to travel across the opening.The basic mechanical elements of the guillotine damper are a blade, a peripheral-seal system to prevent gas leakage at all stages of blade movement, support members for the blade , and a drive to move the blade steadily and continuously from open to closed and back again.In addition, the guillotine damper generally requires more care in design and construction of the seals. Perhaps this is because gas-tightness requirements are higher for guillotines than for louvers, but the fact remains that, in many guillotine dampers, the blade drags past most of the seal perimeter for the full stroke, making heavier demands on the seal material.The simplest form of guillotine damper is the single-thickness flat plate blade. The one-piece blade provides verifiable closure of the duct with minimal leakage at the blade edges. Seals are provided to control leakage where the blade enters the duct section. These seals can be air sealed to contain gases in a positive pressure duct. Leak paths are typically less than 0.1% of duct area with resulting flow leakage of 0.4 to 1.1%. The blade guides insure smooth operation and are self cleaning in deposit producing environments.

The butterfly or wafer damper can be a stack damper where leakage is not all-important. This type has also been tried as an isolating damper for flue-gas scrubbers. The butterfly damper is lightweight, simple, quickly actuated, and often comparatively low in cost. Its frame shape is a handicap in power plant work, however, where much ducting is rectangular. In process work, oval shapes adapt to that shape of duct, but conversion of a round butterfly to a rectangular one results in a louver damper. Occasionally, a double-disc butterfly appears, resembling a circular two-bladed louver damper.Disadvantages of the butterfly damper include high leakage, blade flutter, tendency of the blade to warp, and large clearance needs for the open blade. The frame of most butterfly dampers is light, so twisting and distortion are dangers.Most butterfly blades or discs are flat and single-thickness, so reinforcement is necessary for pressurized duct service. Either angles or simple bars on edge will stiffen the plate. Welding of the reinforcing can warp the plate badly, requiring straightening. Another disadvantage of reinforcing is the flow resistance it causes when the damper is open. Seals for the butterfly damper are usually simple, either flat metal-on-metal, or a soft seat resembling a tadpole gasket.
