The lead free naval brass is the result of the composition of 60% copper, 39.2% zinc and 0.8% tin. The addition of tin with zinc results in the high corrosion resistance in sea water. This makes the alloy resistant to dezincification that inhibit the impingement by seawater at higher than normal temperatures. The alloy is also appreciated for its resistance to wear, fatigue, galling, and stress corrosion cracking.

UNS C38500 architectural bronze alloys are annealed between 427 and 593C (800 and 1100F).
Cold Working
UNS C38500 bronze alloys have poor cold working capacity.
Welding
Brazing and soldering processes are recommended for UNS C38500 bronze alloys. Welding processes not recommended for these alloys include spot welding, gas shielded arc welding, seam welding, coated metal arc welding and oxyacetylene welding
Forging
UNS C38500 bronze alloys can be forged between 621 and 732C (1150 and 1350F).
Machinability
UNS C38500 bronze alloys have a machinability rating of 90.
Hot Working
