This instrument is used for determination and checking of bitumen percentage in bituminous mix, the mix is added with a solvent and dissolved bitumen is removed by centrifugal action. Consists of a removable aluminum rotor bowl, capacity 1500 gms. This shaft and thus the bowl is rotated fast manually by enclosed gears in the cast body and handle. Solvent is introduced during the test through the holes in the cap of the housing. A drain is provided to collect dissolved bitumen coming out of the rotating bowl and getting collected in the housing.

Determination of the flakiness and the elongation index for the given aggregate sample.

This test is used to determine the particle shape of the aggregate and each particle shape being preferred under specific conditions.

The significance of flakiness & elongation index is as follows:

• The degree of packing of the particles of one size depends upon their shape.
• Due to high surface area to volume ratio, the flaky and elongated particles lower the workability of concrete mixes.
• Flaky and elongated particles are considered undesirable for base coarse construction as they may cause weakness with possibilities of braking down under heavy loads.
• BS-1241 specifies a Flakiness index not exceeding 30% irrespective of the aggregate size.
• Maximum permitted Elongated index is 35, 40 or 45% for aggregate sizes     2 ½’’ – 2’’, 1 ½’’ – ¾’’ & ½’’ – 3/8’’.
• Both Flakiness and Elongation tests are not applicable to sizes smaller then 6.3mm i.e. ¼’’ sieve.

Vernier transit theodolite is an equipment designed to meet the requirements of surveyor, mining engineer and civil engineers for high grade surveying instruments giving a maximum portability. The basic function of theodolite is to measure vertical and horizontal angles. This surveying instruments- transit theodolite equipment is ideal for work above or below the ground.

The main purpose of the soundness test is to assess the possible risk of late expansion due to hydration of uncombined calcium oxide and/or magnesium oxide. The test uses apparatus known as Le Chatlier apparatus, which magnifies any expansion during heating to a value that can be measured.

The apparatus consist of a small split cylinder of spring brass or other non-corrodible metal of 0.5 mm thickness forming a mould 30 mm internal diameter and 30 mm high. On either side of the split, two indicators are brazed suitably with pointed ends made of 2 mm diameter brass wire in such a way that the distance of these ends to the centre of the cylinder is 165 mm. The split cylinder will be kept between two glass plates.

The core cutter is driven into the soil using the driving hammer. Then the core is dug out, trimmed, weighed, dried and the density and moisture content calculated. Made of steel protected against corrosion.

The Vibrating Table produces better concrete Moulds and cylinders by removing entrapped air. It distribute concrete evenly inside the moulds and nearly eliminate the problems of bug holes and air bubbles. 

The Vibrating table is entirely constructed of thick steel. The table top is made of thick mild steel plate and has stops along its edges to prevent moulds from walking off the table during operation. A cross arm adjustable on a vertical rod at the centre of the table is provided to hold the moulds while operating the table. The variable pitch pulley arrangement permits the variation of frequency between maximum of 3600 vibrations down to 2600 vibrations per minute.
