DESCRIPTION
EGDA-6888 is a high molecular weight, high density polyethylene copolymer that has been designed specifically for tubular film extrusion. Its broad molecular weight distribution and density have been optimized to give excellent bubble stability at high extrusion rates with high film strength and rigidity. The combination of high strength and excellent drawdown-ability makes EGDA-6888 ideal for down gauging in many applications.
APPLICATIONS
Tubular films produced from EGDA-6888 are recommended for high strength grocery sacks, shopping bags, produce bags and high quality thin films for multiwall sack liners and replacements for thin paper products. EGDA-6888 is also suitable for making non-pressure “gravity” pipes for drainage and sewage applications.
Film properties are typical of blown films extruded at a 4:1 blow-up ratio and melt temperature of 215 C. ASTM: American Society for Testing and Materials
EXTRUSION CONDITIONS
EGDA-6888 can be extruded on conventional HDPE blown film equipment at 215C melt temperature. A flat or moderately increasing temperature profile is recommended for its extrusion.
A 4:1 blow-up ratio and high stalk bubble configuration are always recommended for products requiring high strength. Lower blow-up ratios (3:1) can be used for products that do not require high strength.

Conveying: Conveying equipment should be designed to prevent production and accumulation of fines and dust particles that are contained in polymer resins. These particles can under certain conditions pose an explosion hazard. We recommend the conveying system used is equipped with adequate filters, is operated and maintained that no leak develops and adequate grounding exists at all times.
Health and Safety:
The resin is manufactured to the highest standards but, special requirements apply to certainapplications such as food end-use contact and direct medical use. For specific information onregulatory compliance contact your local representative. Workers should be protected from the possibility of skin or eye contact with molten polymer. Safety
glasses are suggested as a minimal precaution to prevent mechanical or thermal injury to the eyes. Molten polymer may be degraded if it is exposed to air during any of the processing and off-line operations. The products of degradation have an unpleasant odour. In higher concentrations they may cause irritation of the mucus membranes. Fabrication areas should be ventilated to carry away fumes or vapours. Legislation on the control of emissions and pollution prevention must be observed. If the principles of sound manufacturing practice are adhered to and the place of work is well ventilated, no health hazards are involved in processing the resin.
The resin will burn when supplied with excess heat and oxygen. It should be handled and stored away from contact with direct flames and/or ignition sources. In burning the resin contributes high heat and may generate a dense black smoke. Starting fires can be extinguished by water, developped fires should be extinguished by heavy foams forming an aqueous or polymeric film. For further information about safety in handling and processing please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet.
Storage:
The resin is packed in 25 kg bags or in bulk containers protecting it from contamination. If it is stored under adverse conditions, i. e. if there are large fluctuations in ambient temperature and the atmospheric humidity is high, moisture may condense inside the packaging. Under these circumstances, it is recommended to dry the resin before use. Unfavourable storage conditions may also intensify the resin´s slight characteristic odour.
The resin is subjected to degradation by ultra-violet radiations or by high storage temperatures. Therefore the resin must be protected from direct sunlight, temperatures above 40°C and high atmospheric humidity during storage. The resin can be stored over a period of more than 6 month without significant changes in the specified properties, appropriate storage conditions provided. Higher storage temperatures reduce the storage time. The information submitted is based on our current knowledge and experience. In view of the many
factors that may affect processing and application, these data do not relieve processors of the responsibility of carrying out their own tests and experiments; neither do they imply any legally binding assurance of certain properties or of suitability for a specific purpose. The data do not relieve the customer from his obligation to control the resin upon arrival and to complain about faults. It is the responsibility of those to whom we supply our products to ensure that any proprietary rights and existing laws and legislation are observed.

Description.
SABIC® HDPE B5429 is a medium molecular weight high density polyethylene copolymer. It is primarily intended for blow moulding bottles of small sizes. SABIC® HDPE B5429 offers an excellent combination of toughness, stress cracking resistance (ESCR), load bearing strength and processability characteristics.
Typical applications.
SABIC® HDPE B5429 is classified as a multipurpose blow moulding grade. It may be blow moulded into containers for household and industrial chemicals (e.g. detergents, bleach, fabric softeners, solvents, paints, etc.), automotive supplies, foodstuffs, toiletries and cosmetics. It can also be used in other hollow thin-walled parts and profile extrusions.
Processing conditions.
SABIC® HDPE B5429 has been run on the latest high speed blow moulding machines at maximum rates to produce articles of excellent quality. Moulded parts exhibit outstanding surface appearance. The recommended melt temperature for this grade is between 165 and 215 °C.
General information. The SABIC® HDPE product range for blow moulding and extrusion is produced in a slurry – or gasphase process using a Cr catalyst. The primary characteristic of SABIC® HDPE grades is a broad molecular weight distribution, which ensures excellent behaviour during extrusion. Additional characteristics are a high purity, excellent stability during processing and a high intrinsic toughness. The carefully balance of environmental stress crack resistance and stiffness is becoming visible on grade level. Typical application area: bottles, cans, containers and technical articles, sheet and thermoforming, profiles and tubes for pressure less applications.
Health, Safety and Food Contact regulations. Detailed information is provided in the relevant Material Safety Datasheet and or Standard Food Declaration, available on the Internet (www.SABIC-europe.com). Additional specific information can be requested via your local Sales Office.
Quality. SABIC Europe is fully certified in accordance with the internationally accepted quality standard ISO 9001-2000. It is SABIC Europe's policy to supply materials that meet customers specifications and needs and to keep up its reputation as a pre-eminent, reliable supplier of e.g. polyethylenes.
Storage and handling. Polyethylenes resins (in pelletised or powder form) should be stored in such a way that it prevents exposure to direct sunlight and/or heat, as this may lead to quality deterioration. The storage location should also be dry, dust free and the ambient temperature should not exceed 50 °C. Not complying with these precautionary measures can lead to a degradation of the product which can result in colour changes, bad smell and inadequate product performance. It is also advisable to process polyethylene resins (in pelletised or powder form) within 6 months after delivery, this because also excessive aging of polyethylene can lead to a deterioration in quality.
Environment and recycling. The environmental aspects of any packaging material do not only imply waste issues but have to be considered in relation with the use of natural resources, the preservations of foodstuffs, etc. SABIC Europe considers polyethylene to be an environmentally efficient packaging material. Its low specific energy consumption and insignificant emissions to air and water designate polyethylene as the ecological alternative in comparison with the traditional packaging materials. Recycling of packaging materials is supported by SABIC Europe whenever ecological and social benefits are achieved and where a social infrastructure for selective collecting and sorting of packaging is fostered. Whenever 'thermal' recycling of packaging (i.e. incineration with energy recovery) is carried out, polyethylene -with its fairly simple molecular structure and low amount of additives- is considered to be a trouble-free fuel.
