Colistimethate Sodium : Colistimethate Sodium is a derived from Colistin and is a cyclic polypeptide antibiotic which belongs to polymyxin group. It is active against Gram-negative bacteria and is used in the treatment of acute infections of Pseudomonas aeruginosa as well as other serious Gram-negative infections. Colistimethate Sodium is also known as CMS and colistin methanesulfonate sodium. The drug is given intravenously, but the dosing is complicated. Colistimethate sodium is primarily prescribed in international units (IU), but in cases it is prescribed in milligrams of colistin base as well.
