Rectal prolapse is the protrusion (prolapse) of the rectum through the anus. Doctors say that a rectal prolapse is caused by weakness or loss of the usual support structures of the rectum. Laparoscopic rectopexy surgery is one of the surgical procedures used to treat patients with rectal prolapse. During the rectopexy surgery, the rectum is usually restored back to its normal position, which stops it from protruding (prolapsing) through the anus. The rectum is secured in its place with stitchesmesh. Laparoscopic rectopexy surgery is usually performed via very small incisions made in the patient’s abdomen. The doctors use a laparoscope, which is inserted through the incision, for them to get a view of the stomach. All surgical instruments used during rectopexy surgery are placed through the small incisions.

The word “hernia” is derived from the Latin word for “rupture”. It is defined as an abnormal protrusion of an organ through a defect in its surrounding walls. It typically occurs due to weakness in the wall.Umbilical hernia occurs due to a weakness in the abdominal wall in the region of the navel. Umbilical hernias are seen in infants and toddlers as well as in adults.

The formation of adhesions is part of normal healing process, but in some scenarios, it can result in the development of excessive scar tissue, unequal to the original injury. These adhesions can join your tissue or organs together, in a manner which can cause organ dysfunction, pain and other related symptoms. As a result, a patient can be required to undergo laparoscopic adhesiolysis surgery, which is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove adhesions.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with duodeno-ileostomy is a newer bariatricmetabolic procedure. Presently it is being used mainly as a second stage procedure for patients with inadequate weight loss or weight regain after a sleeve gastrectomy. As per the IFSO-APC guidelines, if your BMI is more than 37.5 Kgm2 (BMI- weight in kgheight in m2), you can undergo a bariatric surgery in the absence of any associated illnesses. You can also undergo bariatric surgery if your BMI is ≥ 32.5 Kgm2 and you have 2 or more obesity associated diseases like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc. As per the new DSS guidelines formed by a group of international diabetes federations in London, bariatricmetabolic surgery may also be considered as a treatment option for control of diabetes in patients with class I obesity (BMI- 27.5-32.5 Kgm2) if their diabetes is poorly controlled.
